That's got to have a lot of appeal for CompSci students.

It continues the partnership CMU has with giants in the tech industry.

Intel, which had offices actually inside the University Center, resides now in the Collaborative Innovation Center (there was growing dissent among students and faculty that they should not be in the UC on campus). In addition, the Bill Gates foundation last year donated $20 million for a new building to ease space in the current CS facility (Simon-Newell).

The new Center is laterally on the edge of campus, seems to be a perfect location for Google. It'll be interesting to see where they end up.

Lots of CS-y stuff is also in "Mother" Wean, the ugliest building on campus. It seems that most of the graduate CS things go on in Newell-Simon. They stole the undergrad CS lounge in Wean and promised us a new one in the Gates building, but that won't exist for quite a few years. I think we might get a closet instead.

Ha, I mentioned S-Newell because I couldn't think of the name of Wean. I'm pretty sure I remember on a tour with the campus architect that Wean is the largest poured concrete building in the world, or maybe it was when it was built. What were they thinking? 60's architecture at its finest...doesn't have to match anything as long as it's functional. I might cast a vote for Scaife (?) as the ugliest building on campus.

The old student center-new Gates building area is on the books for a major makeover. Needs it.

They claim a lot of things about this campus that aren't really true. Here are some that spring to mind:

- The Fence is the most painted object in the world. Prolly not.
- Wean is the largest poured concrete structure in the world. Prolly not.
- People rub the nose of the bust of Hamerschlag in the entrance to Baker Hall for good luck on tests. They don't.
- Baker Hall's main hallway is sloped because the building was originally intended to house a gravity-driven assembly line. No.

I suppose it's all just part of the lore that's present on any campus.

However, there are steam tunnels on campus, and one has a window into the pool. It's fairly easy to get on the roofs of many buildings.

It's easier to build sloped things on hills. Doherty's second floor is sloped, too.

There is a google office down the street right before you cross the bridge on Forbs. It's really small and you can only see that it's a google office at night when the lights are on.
