| If you haven't heard by Tuesday, you probably didn't get accepted
I just spoke to someone in admissions. Although I can't verify if what she said is correct, I was told that acceptances went out earlier than rejections. If " a student doesn't hear by Tuesday, they probably weren't accepted."
Sorry folks. Again, I wasn't able to verify how correct this statement was. For all I know, I could have been speaking to the Janitor.

My online decision says I was accepted, but I still haven't recieved a package. Either you were talking to the janitor or I've been the victim of a cruel joke.

Well, did you get your mail yet? Maybe your letter was lost in the mail, which is a distinct possibility.

I just talked to a rep, she said that the decisions are sent out randomly, and in no way are sent accepts, then rejects

You could call 5 times and get 5 different answers.....don't put any stock in anything you get from the people answering the phone in admissions.
Last year acceptances were still arriving in homes as late as the week of April 15. I don't mean to give anyone false hope, but please, the women who typically answer the admission dept. phones appear to be the adcoms' mothers, who seem much more interested in their next hair appt. than anything else. I think they've been hired to simply make the phones stop ringing....not necessarily to provide any reliable info.

Hey guys. On my admissions tracker it says General Correspondace on 3/15, and nothing about if my decision was sent out. What does that mean. Did I not get accepted?

2331...you cannot imagine...! Last January I amused myself wandering about campus a bit before picking up D after she sat in on a class during her portfolio review/sleeping bag weekend. She had asked me to go to admissions and pick up some paperwork for her, which gave me an opportunity to observe these women dealing with some other applicants.
Apparently, CMU's mail dept. is notoriously slow - its rep is known far and wide around campus - outgoing mail can languish there for several days before someone gets it organized and over to the post office. One of the students asked the ladies at the admissions desk about a piece of mail she had been expecting for quite a while, and without hesitation, the older women snapped at her that the date posted as the piece having been mailed on the girl's "Where Am I Now..." site was actually only the "date it left our hands here in Admissions," as in 'out of our hands...not our problem.'
Now, why on earth would a kid care what day it left admissions, if the staff knows very well that the mail isn't going to leave the campus for another couple of days?? Why not allow for the delay and post the later date on the site, so it's more informative to the student the site is intended to help??! The woman said this with a completely straight face...and a rather annoyed tone. The poor girl thanked her and left with that 'deer in the headlights' look about her.
Now, I have to say that D's experience with the admissions process was pretty mild....the reps she spoke to were very helpful and knowledgeable and her site was updated (somewhat slowly) as her scores, etc. arrived....but these women at the front desk......yikes!! I'm sure they get pretty frustrated at this time of year with kids calling them left and right asking the same questions over and over, but still their only goal would appear to be to pick up the ringing phone, say anything to get rid of the kid, and then get back to their own conversations!

I guess we'll know within a week. However, if they do send out acceptances prior to rejections, they need to change their system.
