I've read the course catalog and the discussion of the various majors and requirements so I want to see if I understand this -- there is no language requirement for graduating? They have classes and majors in modern languages but my daughter's been taking Latin forever and has no interest in starting a new language. So if anyone can confirm -- she wouldn't have to take a new language if she wanted to go there and major in Humanities? (Putting aside whether it would be good for her to take another language.) Thanks.

I know there's no language requirement for CS, MCS, and CIT students, and I'm pretty sure it's university-wide, so she probably won't have to take another language class. Well, she will have to take Intro to Java, so I guess that's one last language she'll have to learn at least a little bit. |

Hello,
How easy is it to switch schools? I've been admitted to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, but I would like to attend the Mellon College of Sciences (Economics major --> math major). Also, how would I go about doing this?
Thanks for your help.

Hey. Id been put on the priority waitlist for both, TSB and H&SS (Econ) . I was wondering if you had any idea as to the number of people accepted each year off the priority waitlist, the number of students receiving the option etc. because CMU is my first choice college, and i wanted to get an idea of my chances
Thanks

| Housing Forms?
Hi,
The Official CMU FAT Letter refers to a "Welcome Package" for the online links to the online housing and dining forms. However, I either blank-mindedly misplaced my package or just didn't recieve one. Where else can I find the link to the housing and dining forms? The CMU website also refers to this mysterious "Welcome Package."
Thanks :]

^I think you get the welcome package after you submit the admissions deposit.

I don't think the CMU rep even logs onto CC anymore.

I subscribed to this thread about four years ago, which I believe was about the last time a Carnegie Mellon Admissions representative posted on here. This thread should probably be closed and interested applicants should post on threads pertaining to their particular areas of interest. Or maybe one of those threads where current students answer general questions in an unofficial way.

Does CMU defer early decision applicants to the regular admission pool?

I am applying to CMU early decision. However, the supplement question confuses me. Should it be answered in essay format and when it asks all the other colleges I apply to, does it mean the ones I already applied to or are planning to apply to, because if it's in essay format, it will be hard to answer all the questions on the supplement and still keep it organized. Also, do admissions look at weighed or unweighted GPA?

HI byuan09,
The essay question is asking "why you have chosen Carnegie Mellon your particular major(s), department(s) or program(s)."
That means colleges or programs at CMU, not other universities. Basically, you need to write something about each program/major you are applying to. For example, if you want to apply for SCS and Tepper, then you should write why.
Good luck!
