The Waiting list you are on is it (for ECE). The WL acceptance rate varies from year to year - it is one of our most competitive programs. Please feel free to call the office of Admission in the morning and we would be happy to give you more specific statistics.

I don't think you addressed my issue, CMU Admission.

Here's what I said:
<< I was rejected from Tepper but accepted to HSS. Even though Tepper was my first choice, I fully understand the prestige that HSS holds as well, and as of now it's my first choice (I'll be visiting April 19th). Can you please discuss the possibility of an internal transfer where I could double major between Tepper and HSS? Thank you. >>

Thanks a lot.

bergss,

I am sorry about that. Things have been a little crazy in our office...I hope this helps.
- There is definitely a possibility in regards to internally transferring from HSS to Tepper. Tepper is one of the more competitive programs to transfer into because so few students transfer out. That being said you can definitely take classes, minor and/or even double major in business while you are in HSS. What you will probably want to do is to talk to you academic advisor once you arrive on campus (as an enrolled student) and design how you are going to first fulfill your HSS course requirements and then add in your Business courses. The HSS curriculum offers you a significant amount of flexibility so this is definitely a manageable option. Please feel free to call the Office of Admission and one of our Counselors would be happy to speak to you about this more specifically. Have a great weekend!

CMU Admission... thank you for that response (I had the same question as bergss). However, I just have one last quick question. When transfering to Tepper from HSS, are you given any preferance over the the people applying to transfer from other schools, because you already go to CMU; or do you have to compete pretty much head-on with every single transfer student?

CMU Admission,

I was accepted to both SCS and TSB. I sent in my enrollment letter to SCS. I had heard that getting a dual degree was possible, though difficult. Could you please tell me what the general requirements are for getting two seperate degrees within 4 years?

Thanks!

Priority Waitlist

Carnegie Mellon Admission,

I am on the Priority Waitlist for both CHSS and CIT. I have squestions:
1) Which school do I have a better chance of getting into?
2) Do I have a better chance of getting in if I write a letter?

I have ~3.0 GPA and 1530 SAT 31 ACT
My GPA is not that good, but will my test scores help me?

Thank you!!

alittledyzzie,

I can't really speak to which college you have a better chance getting into because as of right now we don't know how many spaces we will have to offer in these two programs. Once May 1 passes, we will begin determining how many students we can invite from the wait list. At that point, we then review the entire application again, looking at your secondary school performance, extra curriculars, recommendations, essay and test scores (in no specific order) to help the committee come to a decision. If you are 100% confident/sure about your interest in Carnegie Mellon and one college within our University in particular, I would then recommend that you write a letter (as outlined in the decision packet you received) expressing your interest in the program. I hope this helps! Please call the Office of Admission if you have any additional questions. Good Luck!

It really depends. We do take a look at them (just as another small point of consideration to make sure things look consistent) but they are more heavily considered for Class credits. The are just one factor that is reviewed during the entire application read. Please refer to the Carnegie Mellon Application booklet to see the breakdown of test scores desired by each academic program. If you have any other specific questions please call the Office of Admission and a counselor would be happy to help you.

Agent003,

While we do not have specific requirements for high school senior year grades, we do check up on the grades to ensure that they are stable or are improving. If we saw any alarming trends/grades, we would contact you about that. Best of luck finishing up your year and keep your grades up! Enjoy your summer.
