but there is a joint program between mcs and cfa that i wish to go. So then if i did ED to mcs and get in, and cfa to regular decision, then i can be considered for the bachelor of science and arts?

Hey CMU Admissions college rep. guy,

Do you know how competitive the computational finance program is at CMU? I heard it's a world class program.

^^I want to get in that one day!

To anyone: If I apply to a college in CMU ED1, get deferred or rejected, can I apply to another school during ED2 or Regular Decision?

If so, how do I indicate that on Common App? Just ranked the two schools I'm interested in, and let them take care of the rest? Or do I have to call or something?

Dear CM Admission,

How would you rate the biology, pre-med, and BME program there?

Early Decision for Bachelor of Science and Arts

Hello there,

Unfortunately, there is no early decision option available for the Bachelor of Science and Arts (joint program) that you are intersted in. There are a couple of options. You could either apply early decision to one school and then ultimately transfer intot the BSA program or wait until regular decision (December 1st for Fine arts applicants) and apply for the BSA at that point.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call our Office of Admission at 412-268-2082.

Best of luck!

cd0120,

You can get started as early as you want to for the 2006 Admission process for Carnegie Mellon. Please check out our Web site at www.cmu.edu/admission and take a look at "events in your area". This section will provide a new list of all Hometown Interview/Area Program Dates for the fall of 2005-06.

Please call the Office of Admission at 412-268-2082 and a counselor will be happy to help explain this process to you and help you learn more about specific opportunities to interact with our office and the university.

Best of luck!

re: Computational Finance

The Tepper School of Business has become increasingly more competitive in recent years because of the recognition its received. I would encourage you to visit our web site and look at "College requirements" to learn more about who we are looking for to add to the Tepper school.

If you have any specific questions about the Business Administration program or the Admission process at Carnegie Mellon, please either write me back or call our office at 412-268-2082.

Best Regards,
Carnegie Mellon Admission (represented by a female in the office)

re: Application plans/strategies

Dear confidential:

RE: If I apply to a college in CMU ED1, get deferred or rejected, can I apply to another school during ED2 or Regular Decision?

If so, how do I indicate that on Common App? Just ranked the two schools I'm interested in, and let them take care of the rest? Or do I have to call or something?

REPLY: Great questions. If you apply to Carnegie Mellon as part of an early decision plan, you can received three different decisions: 1) admit, 2) defer (you will be placed in the next option. either ED2 or RD unless otherwise stated) or 3) rejected. If either option 2 or 3 occurs, you can apply to another school under ED2 or regular decision.

You can do this by Checking off more than one college that you are interested in and target your application/essay, materials accordingly. In the Carnegie Mellon supplement, you can rank the programs you are interested in (#1 being your first choice, and selection for ED). If you are deferred or rejected, you will be considered for the other choices.

Please call our office and we will be happy to help you through this process - 412-268-2082.

To study business at Carnegie Mellon, you would need to apply to the Tepper School of Business. Once accepted your major would be in Business Administration and then you could elect to focus/concentrate on computational finance. The computational finance classes are quite strong and take a hands-on approach to problem solving. For more specific information, please either visit the Tepper School of Business web site or call our office. Hope this helps.
