| In response to AMAZON way back in April, my D is studying CHEMISTRY. Now in her junior year. She did an internship in FLAVOR chemistry this summer for a small flavor lab in Rockland COunty, NY. She was instrumental in manufacturing the flavor for "CHERRY GARCIA" ice cream! She now has a part time job at the Chem labs at CMU and is very happy there. Her SAT's were not great as I already posted before...but if you work hard and the professors recognize your efforts and determination, you will be rewarded. I guess it is really NOT all about grades. It is about passion and interest. If your daughter is passionate about marketing, she will be successfaul at CMU. They look for those who are willing to devote extracurricular time for their individual undergraduate program.
I hope your D gets into TEPPER and recognizes the opportunity to be successful there!
GOOD LUCK. |

| Hi, I searched the forums and couldn't find a similar question.
When is the absolute latest to take SAT II exams for Regular Decision? I'm planning to major in engineering, yet I need to get a science SAT done. I haven't had time to study for the Physics SAT II to be prepared for the Nov date, but I can get it together for the Dec date. Thanks in advance.

Is it true that you'll help students 100% financially if they were accepted EA? |

| Hi-I called admissions and was told the letters were mailed out but on my student's data display page there is nothing. Have all acting students been notified? We are on the West Coast. |

| Just an FYI, this thread has been dead for awhile- I don't think that any reps read it anymore. CMU made a decision (like many other colleges) that it is better to find out your decision from paper than online; that's their choice. While it is stressful to you that CMU doesn't send all their decisions at once (generally it's over a period of two weeks), remember that many students don't know anyone else who applied to CMU, so they aren't freaking out over when someone else got their letter. Generally there's not much correlation between acceptance and when you get your letter. Would you rather that everyone get their letters April 15th? |

| Waitlist Hi
I got waitlisted from the Electrical Engineering program but have been accepted into Carngie Mellon
Since I dont know what majors are good, i am in a bit of a fix.
Also, I got into Georgia Tech and since I am not sure which one is better - I am now thoroughly confused.
Any advice... |

| College Rep Help! Dear College Rep,
My little brother has to choose between CMU and Johns Hopkins University for math. We want him to get into a hot finance firm and do derivatives trading / quantitative trading / etc...
I looked at Hopkins and it looks pretty dull in terms of finance.
I understand that CMU has an undergraduate computational finance program. My brother has been admitted into the basic math program. If he attends CMU, is there anyway he can transfer into their undergrad. comp. finance program??
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Kotchian |

| Hi,
I applied as an international student to Carnegie and am on the waitlist for CIT and got through Information Systems in CHSS. My first choice was SCS but i din get through there... now my question is how is the Information Systems course and is it possible for a internal transfer later to CIT (ECE) or SCS or maybe even a dual degree? I had heard that many people transfer out of SCS after the 1st year...is that true?
Also, is there a separate waitlist for the CIT ECE as my waitlist acceptance form states CIT for departments other than ECE... |

| I am a sophomore computer science major at CMU
To kotchian123:
Your brother would apply to the Undergraduate Comp. Finance program at the end of Sophomore year. It's a very competitive program, as a Math major take the "Honors" math curriculum meaning Analysis I and II Freshman year and Math Studies I and II Sophomore year. Candidates who do well in those classes are the most highly valued applicants to the program, but there are very few in those classes because of its difficulty. Math Studies II currently has 14 students.
There is also a Finance concentration in the business school which is less math heavy, but still highly regarded. Finance companies commonly recruit from Tepper school graduates as well. I have a few friends who are current Juniors that are getting internship offers from top firms such as Lehman Brothers, UBS, Goldman Sachs, etc..
To madhav89:
Your best bet for transferring into SCS is taking CS courses and doing well in them. My freshman year my roommate was a physics major who took the same CS courses as I did. He did well in them and they almost instantly allowed him to transfer. Doing well in the classes is the difficult part. There are students who transfer after the 1st year because often they realize that they don't have the passion to do CS or they realize that it was not what they wanted to do. |

I understand transferring requires good grades, but just thinking of a worst case scenario in case i dont manage to get good grades and have to major in Information Systems, how do you think is the course and howd you rank doing IS compared to doing CS at UIUC or UMich? |
