o0shuo0o: Yeah, I checked mine earlier and the "waitlist" status is gone too.
It says that they sent more financial aid papers to me yesterday though, so I don't understand why they would do that if I have not been admitted yet.

I find it very inconsistent too that they sent me an email on May 1st stating that there were spots open.

I think I'm going to call the admissions person who contacted me and maybe he will be able to answer some of my questions...

to ikrystin: same, i was thinking about call admissions office tomorrow. however, i doubt they will actually tell us the "truth" considering they have lied to us so many times before. i was actually surprised that they couldn't accept anyone off the waitlist since other top colleges are using the waitlist more than ever this year.

"since other top colleges are using the waitlist more than ever this year"

That's very good news! I have been wait-listed to 3 other colleges besides cmu, I hope I get into one of them.

I don't think they were lying if they sent e-mails May 1 or May 2 about priority waitlist. If you got in RD you could accept a spot by sending a response postmarked May 1. So they wouldn't know for sure about waitlists till May 2 or 3 at the earliest, when they finish tallying.

Historically they admitted off pwl, so I imagine they expected this year to be the same, but apparently got more enrollments than expected.

Best of luck to all...

Since some people here are upset with CMU admissions policy regarding the priority wait list, I would like to express my thoughts about this. Why can't CMU just honestly post how many applied for each department, how many were accepted, and how many were wait listed? Many colleges have said exactly how many applied, accepted, etc. after April 15. Did CMU post this info? I think it would be helpful for all of you who are hoping to get in via the wait list (or priority wait list) if you know the odds.

WOW.

I just got in.

Dear ********,

Congratulations! We are able to offer you admission from the priority
waiting list to Carnegie Mellonšs Information Systems program. You are
required to post a non-refundable $600 enrollment deposit within 24 hours to
secure your enrollment at the university. We'll send confirmation of this
email along more information via postal mail.

Please respond to this email tonight if you plan on accepting your spot in
our Class of 2012 and submit the deposit within 24 hours.

Congratulations again! We look forward to having you join the Carnegie
Mellon community! Best regards from Carnegie Mellonšs Office of Admission.

Sincerely,

Robert

E-Mail sent at 4:23 PM. I'm in California though, so I'm not quite sure about the postage stuff and the "respond back by..." e-mail.

This is actually a pretty hard decision, since I just SIR'ed to UCSD and have really gotten set on the school (as a way to avoid thinking about CMU.) Now I got in, and it's like "uhh........."

Anyone else?

To CTKS22: Congratulations! Did CMU offer you any financial aid? There is a huge difference in price between UCSD in state and CMU. One thing to think about before you decide in the big picture: If you go to UCSD, you will probably get a great job in San Diego or California. If you go to CMU, there is a good chance you will end up in Pittsburgh. I like San Diego a lot more than Pittsburgh.

That's the thing. Practically everything about UCSD is perfect - weather, environment, people. Plus I live in California. Snow? What snow?

But the Information Systems at CMU matches up what I want to do so perfectly it's scary. The main thing that I'm currently stuck on is exactly that - financial aid. I did not get ANY from CMU - which means $53,000 for this year alone.

Did you apply for any financial aid at CMU? Do you have an offer of financial aid at another comparable university which you could show CMU to try to match it? Don't you think that UCSD can offer you enough to make it worth it? The UCSD web site has tons of internships and there are many great companies in San Diego to find part time work which could lead to a great job on graduation.
Also, think about the fact that at CMU if you change your mind about your major, it might be really hard to transfer to another major due to limited and/or non-existent openings. I personally think you have it great at UCSD unless you have very rich parents/grandparents who will pay for CMU. It is not worth taking loans.

Well ... I didn't get off either (found out through e-mail).

Congrats to those who did!

In any case, while I don't doubt that yield was higher than what they expected this year, did they have to lie to some that 'no one was accepted off the PWL'?

so... what is this high yield going to mean for next year's applicants? will there be a few % admitted, or just fewer placed on the waitlist?
