Chances ED or Regular Decision

I really want to attend Tepper except I do not want to do ED unless it will significantly change my decision results.

-I am a local from Pittsburgh
-1310 SAT (730 Math, 580 Reading)
-ACT 31
English: 29
Math: 32
Reading: 33
Science: 30
-ACT 29
English: 27
Math: 34
Reading: 31
Science: 25
-Top 8 % with 4.0
-Weighted GPA/3.65 Unweighted GPA

Extracurricular Activities

-Key Club (Treasurer)
-Tennis
-FBLA (President)
-Robotics
-NHS

I have visited CMU twice and I will attend the Sleeping Bad weekend and an interview next month

Should I do ED or Regular?

And should I send my SAT score?

I think you should apply regular decision, since CMU said that applying early won't make a huge difference.

I agree with pieboy; you can also apply to multiple schools if you're doing RD.

1. Applying ED does -not- help your chances of getting in to Tepper. You also get screwed for financial aid-- I can say this as a first-hand witness.

2. You have a good chance of getting in, but I'm going to play devil's advocate and say-- what if you don't? I'm in H&SS, and I have a ton of friends who are Econ majors because they couldn't get in to Tepper, but were easily accepted by the Humanities college. At the end of freshman year they plan to transfer into Tepper, where they will then take all-Tepper classes. It's a much easier, less painful route into one of the best business schools around, and you can only take this route if you apply RD.

This is from my S's application two years ago - his credentials were significantly better than yours, but was rejected by Tepper. However, he applied for SCS first choice, Tepper second, and CIT third, and his essay and significantly slanted towards a liking for comp sci, which may have affected his chances at Tepper. All in all, you ought to consider Tepper a reach. He's also local to Pgh and did the sleeping bag weekend. He tried to take Tepper courses in his freshman year, but was unable to because of demand from the business students. He finally did get some courses in Summer.
