A small question about Early Decision I plan

Hey,

I am planning on applying Early Decision I at CMU. Just wanted to know that if I am denied for early decision, will my application be considered for regular decision? If so, will I be able to update my SAT and/or ACT test scores for RD if I take any of these tests later than the ED deadline?

It's a little complicated, but this was the info they gave to my son last year. You can apply for up to 5 schools, one of them being ED. So when you submit the common application supplement, indicate all the schools applied to, there won't be a separate application. If you are turned down ED, they ask that you send them a letter saying you want to be considered RD for the other schools. They also asked that he redo his supplement essay, taking out the paragraph that mentioned his first choice ED school. He faxed this all and then called to make sure they got it.

These things were not in the instruction packet, and it seemed somewhat confusing to us. The procedure could have changed this year. Call the admissions office on Monday and ask them all the questions about this and the testing, because it is important that you don't get bad info on this one. Applying ED may not help your chances, depending upon the school applied to, so you don't want to mess up your chances at getting into CMU with a paperwork error.
