I just got accepted to Case, and I'm not sure whether I want to go yet or not.
The one thing I'm concerned about it the campus life....Case doesn't have a great rating on the Princeton Review, but when I visited my tour guide seemed to think that there was plenty to do and I loved the dorms. Do you think there's enough to do? I'm not really into heavy partying but all other forms of activities I welcome.
Also, I have relatives and my boyfriend hails from the Cleveland suburbs. I didn't see anything too wrong with the city, but there is a consensus among everyone else that Cleveland isn't a great place to live.... What do those of you who do live there think? Keep in mind that I hail from a small town in the heart of Pennsylvania grape country. Do you think I would be okay with Cleveland?

my D loves CASE. There is plenty to do, many clubs, etc. She is very busy and also not a party animal, but loves to hang with her friends. It has a great rep and she loves her classes. She is a freshman and has made many many really nice friends, male and female.

My son is in the same boat. He's planning to visit for a few days later this month. He's a serious, engaged student but he definitely enjoys a balanced life - not looking for a party school but still fun and active socially.

My DD goes to RIT (in Rochester) and it has a similar stigma to it - yet she's having a blast and turned down Syracuse to go there.

Since you come from a small town, Cleveland seems like a good place for you to go-it's not too big, but it's not an extremely small city. I'm from here and I don't particularly love the city, but it's not a complete ghost town either like everyone thinks. It should ultimately be up to you-don't go based on what others think of the city. If you like it, then by all means go for Case.

As a Case student, I think a lot of the complaining comes from the fact that a lot of students never leave their dorms, and then consequently complain about nothing going on etc. (At least, that's my experience.) The immediate area has quite a bit to offer within even walking distance (museums, world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, Little Italy...) and there are a lot of very active clubs on campus. While yes, this isn't a party campus, Greek life does a decent amount and the two most popular weekend activities are cheap movies from the Film Society and shows by Improvment, the improv group. If this seems up your alley, you'll probably like it here.

Hey I'm especcially concerned about the campus life myself. I am now a diligent student but also a pretty hard partier. I enjoy playing LAN games but would get sick of them if thats on the weekend. Do you think one can find a good party any night of the week? Hows the greek life? How do the students respond to a little initiative (I can get stuff started if ppl will join)

It sounds like there's plenty of things to do if you just go out and find them. Also, being in a city would be an adventure itself, lol.

Yeah I'm a freshmen this year and despite being ranked 18th on teh unhappiest students list...I love it

I will say I'm on the swim team, so that is a pretty big "in" as far as social things early on
but there is always something to do, as long as you're willing to go find it

I'm also a frosh this year, and I'd like to say that: College is what you make of it.

If you want to hardcore party, there's the frat scene and the sports scene. Plenty of people party. I go to an "INDIAN" party atleast every month and they are vedy vedy fun. =)

At the same time, they're not easily found. You do need to know people. And the only way that happens is by putting yourself out there. If you want parties, you'll find parties; you just gotta look.

I enjoy great academic challenges along with a fantastic social life! I am always up to experience new innovations and explore around.

I'm worried that Case may be too secluded and dull for me.. do you think I will enjoy Case?

I'm a freshman at Case right now...as far as the social life goes, it really depends what you're interested in. I personally am more of the serious student and don't really go for the parties. I've got a great core of friends--we hang out all the time and we do things like go to Improv, the film society's movie, go out to dinner, whatever.
I also really like the Greek system here (although I'm not actually Greek), before I got here I had visions of the Legally Blonde /hard partying type of sorority/fraternity, which really isn't me. I found out it doesn't seem to be a a problem if you don't drink--at least in many of the sororities--and I met some amazing greek girls and guys through classes and formal rush. I didn;'t like every single girl but there seems to be a nice variety of sororities if that's what you're looking for.--Oh and you can always send me a message if there's something you want to ask me.

I will second the above posters. My freshman S enjoys the cheap movies, the improv group, goofy stuff like the Pumpkin Drop, singing in acappella and other choral groups, and hanging with other smart kids. (They play Diplomacy & Scrabble and bake brownies in the kitchenette.) His roommate is in Pep Band & another band.

Son says Case is "wonderful."

to be brutally honest, if you're looking for an answer on CC boards, chances are you will probably a get a more biased one. take a look at the georgia tech boards, and most of them seem to give the school's social status much more than it really deserves.

Plenty of people party, but there are plenty more who spend all their time studying. There are those people at every school, but it seems especially concentrated at Case...because that's what it's known for.
