Just got back from visiting Catholic University in Washington, DC. The architechture department gave an outstanding presentation, and the facilities were way beyond expectations. We've been to visit VT, Syracuse, and a few others, and Catholic is not only comparable, but in many ways even better. The professor's credentials (on their website) were excellent as well.

The campus was beautiful! I had heard the area was a little rough, but upon seeing it myself, I've concluded differently. Homes in the surrounding area are small, but most are neat and maintained.

Anyone care to share their thoughts? Am I missing something, or is this really the jewel I think it is?

No, you are not missing anything. Catholic is indeed a jewel as it is I believe very underrated. The neighborhood is not the greatest but it is certainly not "scary" unless you come from the country (LOL), so to speak. As a father in New York, as I am, there was nothing really remotely of concern, so long as one is cautious and alert.

The programs at CU are very good. MY son was interested in the Arts and Sciences College. I am very anxious to re-visit with my daughter this year as I think it would be perfect for her.

My son applied this year, got in w/ Honors Program and generous merit award, but has decided to go to Georgetown instead. It was a very tough decison because we really loved CU very much.

I thiink that CU is an up and coming college and, for Catholic students in particular, is a special place. I would certainly encourage your son to apply.

Plus, the Metro station right off campus makes downtown DC only minutes away (something Georgetown does not have).

Catholic's MFA Theater program has an excellent reputation. Does anyone have an opinion re: their BA in Theater. Also, how would you rate the rigour of its core requirements. Some colleges have high admit rates, but then 'throw it at em', so to speak, in the first and second-year core requirements. My S attends a small Catholic HS, but is not Catholic.

My son was also accepted to CUA Architecture and we attended the presentation in April for accepted students. We have visited many schools. I was very impressed with the CUA program. I am trying to understand why it is not as highly rated as I think that it should be and I cannot figure it out.

I would be interested in understanding more about this. I strongly believe that it is an excellent program.
