Are you stressed yet?

I was just wondering what decisions everyone has made or where they are in the decision-making process. The senior scouts in my troop are split. Some have made their final decision and some are still doing 2nd visits. Although I don't have a horse in this race as a scout leader for HS girls I live through the fun of applying, deciding, etc. EVERY year

The leaders in D's horse race from 10th grade till now have been Centre and Rhodes. Different but the same. They haven't changed positions but have been joined by UMiami for a very generous bigger school option. Scripps, Colgate, and Hamilton still seem to her to be exotic and to me unreachable financially so even at this late date she really doesn't spend as much time contemplating life there. The real reaches are destined to stay reaches.

I think if Centre and Rhodes come through with scholarship aid sufficient to make them palatable they will be the two sides of the coin that gets tossed. And if so, I sure could have saved a lot of angst.

March 10 and 11. Centre scholarship weekend and Bellingrath notices should be out before then. It's all coming down to the wire. I would really like to think that one would pull way ahead but DD is pretty blunt that she doesn't think that will happen. Says she's been around too much to ever think any school is perfect. Heck, I don't even have a favorite and I at least have the tiniest distance from the impact of the decision.

But, thank goodness. It is almost over.

Your daughter sounds like she's got a good head on her shoulders. The financial thing is HUGE. Even with a pretty good scholarship, Centre is a huge stretch for us but we're 2 years down and 2 years to go. I'm throwing a huge party when those AMS payments end

Good luck to your family as the financials roll in --

L.

Yep , I know what you mean about the $. Centre has already been generous enough to give her $15k per which leaves a balance that is at the apex of possible without really serious loans. UMiami is already $6K a year cheaper while starting out $10k a year more expensive. I would like to think Centre will get closer but as you know the competition at all these schools for merit money is VERY stiff and we are very grateful to have such a wonderful option available at all. We will not look a gift horse in the mouth. LOL.

I'll just be glad when it's all over. DD was hoping to have made the cut of 30 students who were invited for the Centre scholarship weekend, but she did not. She'll be in Arkansas at Hendrix this upcoming weekend for their scholarship competition. So far, she's been guaranteed a minimum of $15K per year at each school. Although she says they're almost equal in her decision making process, she's been leaning toward Hendrix for a while. I'm sure much of that is due to the phenomenal time she had at her overnight there. She will be overnighting at Centre in late March. Centre is closer to home and we would love to see her go there, but we would be equally thrilled to see her go to Hendrix. If she is lucky enough to be offered the Hays (full ride at Hendrix), there will be no question where she goes.

Doddson will be overnighting at Centre in early March. He's also doing an overnight and the merit competition weekend at Hanover the following weekend. I think that week will settle it for him. It will depend on how his visits go and the money. Right now, Hanover will be about 4K a year less than Centre, with the possibility of a larger scholarship from Hanover. I agree with Curmudgeon. I'm glad it will be over soon.
