Overnight at Centre

Hello All,
Well, number one son did an overnight at Centre last week. He flew from Germany to Cincinnati and back all by himself. He and we figured it was time for him to get some practice. He did wonderfully, arriving home on Sunday.

Let's see....the overnight at Centre. Grandparents got him to Centre on Monday. He attended some classes and ran into a couple of kids from the Strasbourg, France program he met in November 2005. DS was also sighted by Curmudgeon and DD in the admissions office, although Cur didn't talk with DS, concerned he might weird him out. DS enjoyed classes, his host, and activities. Only downside-he left his wallet on the desk in host's room while sleeping, showering, etc. and sometime during the visit someone helped themselves to a $100.00 of his traveling money. Expensive lesson about dishonesty and the need to secure your valuables.

Centre continues to be his first choice but other colleges are narrowing the gap, so we shall see.

Sorry to hear about the theft. That definitely would put a crimp in how I felt -- sure, it may only be one bad apple, but IMHO it doesn't take a lot to leave a sour taste. Glad to hear that your S was still okay with Centre afterwards.

I'm also glad there's been a Curmudgeon sighting! I know he's been swamped with travel and incommunicado as a result. We all miss his good humor on this site (although I'm sure he'll be shocked and disappointed at some of the do-ings in his absence).

Hey there, doddsmom. Hope you are doing well. Doddsdad gave me the scoop on your DS's recent trip as our DD is also interested in Centre. I was so disappointed to read that someone had stolen from him while there. I thought there was an honor code in place at Centre, but I just searched and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know? I know you must be excited to hear back about the scholarship weekend at Hanover. I hope your DS enjoyed his visit with family and on the campus of two very good prospective schools. DD will overnight at Centre next Tuesday night, so she will likely make her decision immediately after that visit.

I'm hoping that curmudgeon will join us here at CC again. I miss his posts so much. I certainly understand his point about not wanting to weird your DS out by approaching him. I guess our kids think we're weird enough by chatting with one another on this board.

Regarding the stolen money: Christopher did not report it to Centre as he was unaware that money was missing until he returned to his grandparents' home. He noticed money was missing when he went to pay for something after returning from Centre. I wonder if we should report it to Centre? We had just chalked it up to a hard lesson learned but I wonder if Centre should know about the theft....hmmmm

Centre does have an honor code but like all things, some will abide while others won't.

I would report the theft to admissions. They carefully screen their "colonel corps" (hosts) and need to know that there was a problem.
