Decisions, Decisions, Decisions ...

I'll be so very happy when the decision process is over. We've been in Danville for the past couple of days while DD did her overnight at Centre. In comparing the two schools which DD is currently considering, hubby and I like the fact that Centre is half as far as the other school, and we like the town and surrounding area better than the other school. DD enjoyed her overnight, but was still leaning toward the other school until she attended a Government class yesterday. She was absolutely glowing when she returned from that class ... it was right up her alley and she said the professor was fabulous.

Although our DD says she is neutral in terms of greek life, she has stated that she doesn't think she'll join a sorority. DH and I were both involved in greek life at our alma mater and had a wonderful time, but we don't want to influence DD one way or the other. For those in the know, how would you describe greek life as it really is at Centre? We hear that there is really no division of students in terms of greek/not greek, but what have you experienced?

Okay, you KNOW me and know that I will say that Centregirl should be answering this (but she's kinda busy these days ...

Centregirl is a sophomore and NOT a member of a sorority. Many of her friends are and there is no division. In fact, she goes to many of their events as a guest. She will be the first to tell you tell you that she loves not being in a sorority...I'm not sure why but that's her story. As a parent I honestly don't see any difference for her, she has a very robust social life (LOL) which includes greek events.

Thanks so much, Centremom. I appreciate the quick reply. Until this overnight, we were fairly convinced that she would be attending the other school. Now, it looks as though both schools are in the running and I am just ready for her to make that decision and be happy with it.

I feel a bit guilty saying that DH and I are favoring Centre at this point. I say we don't want to sway her decision, but deep down, maybe we do. I think of all the good things about Centre ...
-my young (25) cousin who lives in Lexington, Kentucky and gets along very well with DD - she could be there for her, if needed
-my DD's best friend's grandparents (who are DD's adoptive grandparents) live 40 minutes away,
-Danville is a more appealing town than the one in which the other school is located,
-half as far from home (only 3+ hours) as the other school
-it's not far from my parents in Louisville, Kentucky

Splashmom,
You know I was in the same position you are two years ago. Centregirl also really liked Hendrix and had to choose between it and Centre. We, as parents, also really liked Centre and Danville. In fact, I don't know any parents who weren't completely enamoured with Centre and Danville. I have had a number of parents call me for a recommendation on Centre and all really loved the school, the feeling of security, the beautiful campus and the smallness of the community. The kids are a bit of a harder sell because the school is small, the town is small but I can honestly say that Centregirl -- with all her ups and downs -- is very, very happy with her choice. She says it's the first place she's every felt like she really fits in.

Ah, well--it will all be over soon
