Hi everyone! I just wanted to create a thread to give space for anyone who wanted to ask me a question. I am an admission counselor at Champlain, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the school, our admission process, or anything else you might want to know in relation to Champlain or Burlington.

My son applied regular decision the last week of October. We did not apply ED to any college. We have started to receive replies. We had a conversation with an admission director at a college fair in Nov, who followed up with my son indicating that he would be reviewing his app soon. When should we expect to hear from Champlain?

    Good morning MSUalum,
We're happy to hear that your son is interested in Champlain! Due to the fact that he applied regular decision, he will have a little time to wait before receiving his decision. We prioritize our Early Decision files first, and then we will read our regular decision files; however, we want to be able to get a look at the whole applicant pool before coming to our final decisions, so we do not send out our regular decision letters until late March. If your son wanted to reach out to his counselor in the meantime, they might be able to indicate how the review is going and if we would like to have any further information. If you'd like to know who would be reviewing his application, you can either visit our website, or let me know what state you reside in, and I can provide you with the correct counselor's contact information.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions that I can assist you with.

I applied for the ED 1 deadline, and it was said that I would receive a decision 30 days after the deadline, but I haven't heard back yet. Any estimate on when I will hear back?

Hi ChurchillStudent, I'm sorry for our delay! Some of our letters went out a bit later than our expected date, as there were some files that still were waiting on paperwork. I believe the majority of our letters have gone out at this time. If you still haven't received your letter or heard from your admission counselor by tomorrow, feel free to call our office so that we can let you know when you can expect to hear from us.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Is scholarship information included with the admissions packet?
  • NicoleChamplainNicoleChamplain Posts: 99College Rep Junior Member
Hi tennis83, the financial aid package will come within 7-10 days of the acceptance letter. This will include all information about scholarships, grants, and loans that you would be eligible for. If you are accepted and haven't received your financial aid package after that amount of time, give your admission counselor a call!

    Thanks Nicole.
Do you award any merit scholarships to students that did not apply for financial aid?
  • NicoleChamplainNicoleChamplain Posts: 99College Rep Junior Member
You're very welcome! Glad to be able to help.

We consider all applications for merit-based aid, regardless of whether or not you applied for financial aid; however, there are some scholarships we may not know that you could qualify for without that information. Therefore, we suggest to everyone to submit a FAFSA just so we can have those details.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

    Hi Nicole,

Do you know if people should begin hearing back from Champlain by the end of this month? Will the admission decisions available online, before the formal acceptance packet/letter? I live in California and I am very anxious to hear back.

    Thank you

    Hi alexsd123,
Sorry to make you anxious! We are working hard to get the rest of our decision letters out over this week and next week. Hopefully yours should be coming very soon! Unfortunately we do not offer online notification at this time. You can also reach out to your counselor, Shawn McElwain, at mcelwain@champlain.edu.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today. Unfortunately, the financial aid is nowhere near where my family can afford. Thank you for your help, though, Nicole.

Hi alexsd123, congratulations on your acceptance! I'm sorry to hear that the Financial Aid package wasn't enough to be able to help. You can reach out to your Admission Counselor if you'd like to see if we can do a Financial Aid appeal - I understand, though, if you don't want to take this extra step. Either way, good luck with wherever your future takes you!

  • NicoleChamplainNicoleChamplain Posts: 99College Rep Junior Member
Hi square222, we have started to send out our decision letters for Early Decision 1 last Friday and today. Yours may have gotten held up due to paperwork, but hopefully it should be in the mail very soon, if it's not already! You can also contact your counselor to make sure all your paperwork is in. You can find out who your counselor is here: Meet Your Admission Counselor | Undergraduate Studies | Champlain College

Hi! Wondering if you could clarify the admission "requirement" for foreign lanuage.
I'm seeing 2 units (years) on Engus Data Sheet and 3 units (Princeton Review).
Making senior year course selections and don't want to be shut out for not having the third year...would prefer taking AP History. Many thanks for your response!
