| A nondenomination Christian in a reformed college?
Hi I'm going to attend Calvin College which is a reformed calvinistic church. However, I am non denominational and there are barely any nondenominational colleges out there except Gordon College and Hillsdale which I don't like. How wrong or hard is it for someone in a different Christian subgroup to be around in a different protestant subgroup, does it in anyway "tangle" one's faith and belief?

Does any one understand what I wrote? I'll rephrase it. Is it ok for someone of a different denomination (like me: nondemonation) to attend a Reformed church college or a college different from their denomination?

No. Christian is Christian. The vast majority will not care which denomination you are (or lack thereof in your case). And from what I've been told, Calvin's pretty accepting.
Btw, why not Hillsdale? Just curious.

have you been to any of the Christian College fairs put on by NACCAP? i used to be an admission counselor at a Christian College and these fairs are great to go to and ask these questions to a large group of colleges. i think you will find that Calvin will be quite accepting of a nondenom student. Most Christian colleges are based in a certain denomination but will accept students from other denominations. here's a link so you can find the fairs in your area. i believe they start in september. My student is currently a CS major at Calvin. We are not from Michigan, and we are not CRC (Christian Reformed, Calvin's denomination; although we are Presbyterian, a denomination in the Reformed tradition). While 50% of Calvin's students are not from the CRC, all its faculty belong to CRC fellowships or churches. You can expect the school to take and teach a Reformed perspective on a number of matters -- and that is different than, say, either the Mennonite or Wesleyan traditions. But I don't think you will find this heavy handed, and Calvin certainly welcomes students of other affiliations.

uhhhh, non denominational is a denomination unto itself.
if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Well, I'm a freshman at Pepperdine and they're affiliated with the Churches of Christ, but probably 90 percent of their students are non-denominational.

I don't think you'll have a problem. Odds are, it's not discussed all that much and when it is, people will respect differing opinions.

| Calvin or Wheaton
D (ACT 34) would get generous merit aid at many colleges including Calvin, but she wants to go to Wheaton. Trying to figure out if Wheaton is worth the $. I realize Wheaton is a great school, but I have visited Calvin twice with other D and really liked it. Comments?
