Deferred :(

I applied to CNU as my safety EA. I didn't get the letter for a long time, so I kept hounding them to send it to me. Now I feel stupid, and am starting to doubt if I'll get in anywhere else if CNU didn't even want me early. My stats are really good, and now I'm just really shocked and confused...

You don't list your stats so it's hard to evaluate, but hopefully you have kept up with your RD apps and are ready to submit them soon. Otherwise I wouldn't waste any time on something you can't change now.

The college application process has changed so much in the last few years, and adcoms are always trying to predict students' acceptance of their offers to attend. Maybe they could tell you saw them as your safety, who knows....

Well it turns out the lady that reviewed my application failed to look past just the numbers. I have a less than desirable GPA (3.56 which isn't even that low for CNU) but I have a 1950 SAT, and I'm extremely involved in EC's at school which take up a lot of my time. My counselor was just as shocked as I was that I got deferred (other kids from my school got in who have way lower stats), and she called the admissions office asking why. Another person reviewed my application and told my counselor that they had no idea why I was deferred in the first place. My counselor then e-mailed them a wonderful recommendation along with my first quarter grades (4.07...good thing senioritis didn't strike). I love my counselor for this, and she told me I should be finding a letter in the mail soon.

Also, I don't know why I said CNU was my safety. Sure, I'd rather go to other schools, but I would be fine if I ended up going to CNU for their 5 year bachelor to master's program in music education.

wow. I thought CNU was easy to get into =/

CNU is my last option for college pretty much, hopefully I can make it.

That was my thought process. From the people at my school, some people have gotten in who definitely didn't deserve to while others have gotten deferred who should have been perfect matches. College admissions are so unpredictable...

But again, they could defer someone who they think is only applying as a safety school, which I don't get. Everybody picks a safety school, CNU probably just doesn't want to be regarded as "the safety school". It shouldn't though. It's better than VCU, ODU, Radford, etc.

What a coincidence, I'll be attending CNU in the fall for music education. (assuming auditions go well.) Anyway, I applied EA with a 3.33 GPA and 1750 SAT, and was accepted. I did meet and talk to my admissions counselor though, so that may have played a part.

I have a strong feeling I'll get in once they see my 1st semester grades. When is your audition date?
