| Regarding PPE and 4+1 Program I'm a student planning to apply to CMC this year. I'm also applying to several British colleges as a PPE major. I would appreciate if CMC students are willing to answer my questions.
First, is there a difference in the acceptance rates for Early Decision I and II? I cannot find them on the CMC website.
Second, what are the PPE and 4+1 programs like?
I'm sure my major would be between those two if I do get accepted. I know that at Pomona, PPE majors can study abroad at Oxford; is this possible at CMC also? Also, when do CMC students declare their majors? Furthermore, do you have to go through an admissions process to become a PPE or 4+1 major? |

| I am going to be a freshman at CMC in the fall, but I researched the the PPE program one of my main reasons for applying so I can tell you a bit about it.
You apply to be in PPE you sophomore year and there are 3 prerequisites (easy ones they are econ, gov, and phil). It has been competitive in the past but I have heard if you really want to be in the program you normally get in. You can only study abroad your fall semester of your Junior year. I don't know if you are allowed to study at Oxford, but I know you can't study at LSE, because they have year long programs.
I am pretty sure you don't have to declare till end of sophomore year, but I could be wrong.
The 4+1 majors seem to be pretty open, you should meet with the director before your junior year though.
Regarding ED I and II, I don't think the admit rates would be significantly different.
Which Universities are you considering?
My father did PPE at Oxford and he seems to think CMC has the most similar program he has seen and I think I will like CMC's program better because it emphasizes working together as well as on your own. |

| ^I'm applying to Warwick, Durham, and, yeah, Oxford; all three of them have PPE programs. My other two choices are LSE and UCL since they have good economics/gov departments. I've just recently found about Claremont colleges; I've never knew there was a PPE program in the US.
And yeah, the deadline. It's all because of Oxford I have to send in the UCAS app by the end of September. I might choose to apply to CMC through EDII; I really need that first semester of senior because my overall GPA is low (Freshman grade from South Korea was a bummer).
Do you think there's a difference between Pomona's PPE and CMC's PPE? CMC's PPE is supposedly based on that of Oxford. Although I really like the PPE programs in Pomona and CMC, I like the fact that I can start PPE right away if I study in UK. |

| I know that you have to apply to CMC's PPE program and it is limited to 12 people per class, but Pomona's is open and I'm not sure if it's a tutorial system or not..? |

| CMC's PPE program The PPE program at CMC is wonderful. There is nothing quite like it at any of the other colleges. First, it's tutorial and seminar based. So, you really get to engage with the texts and form bonds with the students and professors. Also, it is enrollment limited. This makes the program somewhat prestigious, but also fosters a relationship between the students. Since it's such a small program, students attend dinner at the prof's house and have class lunches in the village. In addition, you get a stipend so the school pays for PPE books. As for Oxford, there is no restriction about which study abroad program you attend. So, you can go to Oxford. I know two PPE students who are going to Oxford next fall. All in all, PPE is a great program. If you want to learn how to write well, synthesize large amounts of information, and grapple with complex theories of political science, philosophy, and economics, then do the PPE program. |

| Pomona has the same program, and sends 12-14 to Oxford each fall. It differs however in that enrollment isn't limited. |
