Economics

I have heard that Claremont McKenna has the best economics department of all LACs in the country. I know that an economics degree from CMC is very well respected, but does CMC really have the best department in the US? If so, are there any sites or reports that verify this? I'm just curious since I'll being attending Claremont this fall.

LAC departments aren't generally ranked, so it's hard to say. CMC has a strong department, but to say it is head and shoulders above Swat, Pomona, Williams, Amherst, would be incorrect.

I don't know whether they're the absolute best, but they do specialize in the subject

I'd personally say go with CMC. CMC not only offers a fantastic major in Econ but like you, i imagine, i like all the little things CMC offers its students, guest speakers, small intimate classes, excellent food, its a residential campus, and so much more...

I find myself in a similar position, but between UC Berkeley and CMC. When I tell people that I've gotten into both schools, they immediately assume that I'm going to Berkeley. Such is probably the case with you and USC. For job prospects, the name brand has *some* bearing on how people view you -- however, I'm quite confident that CMC will be much better known in the next 10 years or so.

Pick the school based on more than academics. Each school has a different culture and way of teaching. CMC offers small and personalized classes with superb student life. The quality of the education probably surpasses that of USC, but it's a tough call.

Best of luck, keep us updated as to what you decide!
