hi i was wondering if anyone could point the clark's good points and bad. i like the fact that it is a small school where your professors will know you. also, the chance for research is amazing. i just got a scholarship from clark and am seriously considering it as an option to go to school. any help would be helpful. =]

This is from what I have seen so far. They are so far my top choice.

Good-
Free grad school education(accelerated 1 year masters) if you maintain a 3.25 soph-senior.
Small campus, seems to be friendly community. Seems to have a good humanities program (Which I want). Pretty good reputation.

Bad- Worcester, the town looks sort of dull and the area surrounding Clark is pretty crappy. Price (you said you received a scholarship though).

I would recommend a tour if you haven't already taken one.

One quick point about "5th year free", it doesn't include all majors. Pshycology was not one of them, although teaching and others were. You have to look into it.
My son liked the atmosphere of the school when we applied last year, the closeness with professors and the friendliness of the campus. Research too was a plus. The $ though wasn't there, one small scholarship wasn't going to do it, it barely covered room & board (and he got very good grades)
He didnt' like Worcester, but it was the lack of transportation home and other cities that bothered him more than the neighborhood. He likes the school he's at now (Drew) which was tied but I think he would of liked Clark also.

thanks for the opinions - i really appreciate it. i pretty torned between clark and BU at the moment. BU gave me little in fin. aid and no merit money (whereas Clark gave me the traina scholarship, $16000 a year and a chance to do research - esp. since I want to be a doctor/bio major). i agree, the neighborhood bothers me a bit. i love how close the students and professors were. BU i felt really comfortable there, and i know it has a better reputation. my family and i are going to visit again, i hope that helps in my decision making!

Regarding Clark's neighborhood, common sense rules. You don't go anywhere alone at night, even in the most bucolic surroundings.

MarathonMan88, I would be grateful if you could share with us any of your impressions when you come back. I'm an international and I can't visit any campus in the U.S.. I'm quite interested in Clark, since they offered me a substantial scholarship. I still have to receive some decisions, but I want to know more about it (housing, atmosphere etc.).

Hi all,

I'm going to be a junior at Clark next year, so I can help with any specific questions. It seems that most have general points have been covered, but if there are other questions, please let me know.

I'm very busy now, but I'll pop in.

I do want to point out that, you shouldn't let the surrounding area be the main deterrence. Worcester has warmed itself to me, and there are plenty of places to visit. I should mention that I'm from the Wash. D.C. area, so I'm a city-girl transferred over here and still happy.

i've been told that i'ts pretty easy to get accepted at clark u, but are scholarships given away easily? i'm an international student looking forward to study at this university (or at least considering it as one of my possibilities), since it gives financial need-based aid to internationl students. my question is, is it hard to get in and receive this type of aid? covering about 60-70% of the annual costs

I have a friend in Clark. He is international and has received a scholarship that covers about half the school expenses, even if he had quite low SAT scores, I mean below 600 at all three sections, and he's not extremely poor either.

I heard through students that Clark, unlike some other colleges, are very generous with international students so I would definitely apply. Some US minorities with the same stats got less than some International students, so they definitely like to have the diversity from all sides.

Daughter applied to Clark as her safety school. First impressions were not great, but the school grew on us as time went on. Very good solid school, so-so neighborhood. Very generous with merit aid. Daughter ended up elsewhere, and felt Clark was too close to home, but she could have done a lot worse had she ended up at Clark.

Also, I hired a young lady a couple of years ago who had recently graduated from Clark. Very pleased with her preparedness and work performance.
