I don't remember Diff EQ as hard, but remember Abstract Algebra as hard. My son, OTH, took a course called Groups, Rings and Fields and said it wasn't hard, although it was the first math class in which he had to do the reading before doing the problem sets, despite the fact that the professor was a very clear and organized lecturer. He might find more applied math courses harder as you have to be much more detail-oriented in setting things up. So, different people might find different things hard.

So spoke with D3 and she asked if when Family weekend was and if we were coming. I said yes but did she have other plans. She said that if we didn't come she was thinking of going to NYC for the weekend with friends who are from there but would love to see us. SO....I read between the lines and said well you are coming home in about 10 days after that so If you want to go to NYC you should do that. She said OK, very quickly...So no Family weekend for us, but we are planning on driving up for Harvard/Yale to see everyone and she is coming home for the October break so its all good, saves us some money!

Woke up to rain this morning and was hoping for a rainy day but seems to be clearing up!

Have a good day!

Have a great weekend everyone.

No update from DS regarding the Kennedy Center Susan G Komen function last night but he did send DD-14 a photo of himself in his tux ready to go. Looked pretty spiffy IMO.

Also had to bring us back from the top of page 3.

Rescued from Page 4!

We had an interesting discovery today. D2 just received the HS yearbook from last year. There was a delay with the printer, and there was a new yearbook advisor, so not everything was sent in on time, which caused them to be printed so late.

A tradition at the HS is to have a baby photo along with the senior portrait in the yearbook. DH was looking through the yearbook and said "Look, it is D1's baby photo!" She graduated in 2011, and her baby photo was used for 2 different girls in the yearbook. Granted, she was the cutest baby ever, but why would they use her photo for 2 other girls? I sent an email to the principal explaining what happened and asking what will be done to prevent such an error in the future.

gsmomma--you should ask for payment for use of your copyrighted photo!!!! Tell them your usual fee is $100 per use!

I guess everyone is busy since we keep having to rescue from pages 2+

Its a shame to see this thread dying, seems activity has fallen off since "all the ugliness" happened. I hope its just that we are all really busy and enjoying life!

On the home front, cold front coming through, todays high 82 tomorrow's 55. Brrrrr time to break out the winter sweaters!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

DS coming home next Sat for week-long Oct break. Haven't seen him since Aug so will be great to really catch up.
Am hoping he's coming home with updated resume (with help from career office) and a list of potential internships for next summer; that was the plan anyway, but I am not taking bets. The career office is awesome, but he does need to go and actually ask and engage with them....not his strengths. Ah well....he'll figure it out sometime I hope!

I'd bet he will, siemom. My son seems to working out of his sophomore slump by focusing on the future; he called to ask me for tips on updating his resume and made an appointment with the career office. He's also joined a "connections" group to help with his networking skills (based on Keith Ferrazzi; Not someone I was familiar with).

On the other hand, he also told me that he had blurry vision for an hour on Friday morning followed by a couple of hours of a bad headache. His bout with Lyme disease put him at risk of migraines, so I think that might be what he had. Any encouraging thoughts? (please don't scare me; I can come up with the bad stuff on my own.)

If he's having migraines, there is medication that can help a lot. He should see a doctor for recommendations and/or a prescription. My son gets migraines and takes a combination of OTC and prescription drugs when they come on.

I agree EAO. I hope our thread doesn't die out. It's been a great place to come with good/bad news and questions that seem to pop up.

I think my DS is in a bit of a slump also. He's taking organic chemistry along with all the other classes. He's not gotten involved in his EC that he did last year. He's already told us he needs to study the weekend we are visiting (which is fine, but we expect to spend some time with him), and he has the opportunity to go to the Army/Navy game (he's in ROTC) and he says he's not going because he has a mid-term to study for. I appreciate his focus on school, but I worry that he's not enjoying himself much.

VAMom, Organic Chemistry was my least favorite class in college. I hope your son does well.

D1 had her car broken into last week, and they stole her GPS (of course it was in full view). When she reported it to the ploice, she mentioned that she has had her car parked on the street for 2 months, and nothing had ever happened. The reply "It's October, the start of gang initiation." Oh great. Hopefully, that is all they do. She called a glass company and made arrangements for the window to be fixed, unfortunately, the mechanism for moving the window up and down was also damaged, so we need to take it to a regular repair shop.

She has finals this week, and is home next week for Fall break. It is all going by so fast.

Good morning. I am so excited - D is coming home for fall break this weekend! Unfortunately, it's a short break - just Monday and Tuesday off - and she can't get on a bus until late on Friday night so I'll be picking her up from the train station early on Saturday morning. She has a late October birthday, so we'll have a small family celebration on Sunday night. I have to be at an out of town wedding Saturday night, but she'll spend that time with her dad. Shopping on Monday, hanging out on Tuesday - lots of cooking and baking. I'll get the whole scoop while she's here, but she seems to be happier now than she was a year ago. Harder academics/more fun social life seems to be the case this semester. So glad that I don't have to wait until Thanksgiving to see her.

I hope this thread doesn't die. I have enjoyed reading how our kids are progressing in college.

I saw DS this weekend for a family event. Hard to believe the semester is halfway over and he will be home for a month during the holidays.
