I had to do all suit shopping last year. DS was required to have business attire for interviews that started his first year. We became a big fan of several stores with their specials. Now he wants a business coat for the winter. Need to start outlet mall shopping soon in search of best buy for it.

The BC is coming home tonight with his two roommates before heading up to Montreal tomorrow for Oct. break. I'm ordering pizza and DH will pick up the beer on his way home from work. Looking forward to seeing him even though it's only for one night.

Emmybet, congrats to your D1!

Thanks all for your suggestions. I hadn't thought of sinuses - but that could be a problem. I'll check. Other than a brief text message last night (at midnight!) saying she was feeling a bit better, no news from D. She did say in her message that she's staying hydrated and also trying to eat healthier

Did anyone feel the earthquake in New England? I had just dropped off D2 at dance class, and I thought there was something wrong with my car. D1 called and said "Did you feel an eathquake? I thought it was the cats running around upstairs, but I checked Facebook and found out there was an earthquake."

What did kids do before Facebook to get their news?

It is nice having D1 home on break, since she made us dinner and dessert tonight. She also worked at the middle school as an Special Ed aid. The head of the Special Ed program asked if she could work all week as a helper. She enjoys it, since she only works for 5 hours a day, and she can definitely use the money. She got her final grades for the term, and did very well, so she is happy.

D2 takes the PSATs tomorrow. The school pays for all sophomores and juniors to take the test. I have no idea at all how she will do, since she is not a very good test taker, but I am curious to see how she does. D1 did well on both PSAT and SAT without any studying or prep classes. I suspect that I may need to invest in a class for D2.

Yay for GSmomma's D1 and great end of term grades (I think she's the first of the year to finish a term?? I'm guessing quarter system).

My DS2 is taking PSAT's tomorrow like your D2. I have no expectation of him doing well, as he too is not a good test taker. I will have to get some good tutoring for him before the SAT/ACT tests come up next year.

Congrats gsmomma!

Update on the suits-they were delivered last night by my husband-the shoes never arrived but they were so apologetic they gave him a better pair for the same price!

Wish him well-he got the interview-today he interviews with two people and then after that he interviews with two more-pretty intense for a 19 year old!

Congrats to Gsmomma's D. Good luck to the younger sibs taking the PSAT today.

Good luck to Pepperson! That interview sounds very intense for a 19 year old. Hope it goes well.

S in PSATs right now. Not surprisingly, he is more concerned with the timetrail for cross country this afternoon. He generally tests well and it is sophomore year, but I still hope it goes well.

D sent in the first application for a summer internship last night. It's the one she really wants, so I hope that goes well too. I don't remember worrying about summer plans until January when I was in school!

I have some friends with high school seniors and it is very stressful in their homes right now. How far we have come!

My HS sophomore should be in PSAT now. He is not a good test taker and he did not have enough time to finish the PLAN (practice ACT) last week. I don’t expect much from the practice PSAT.

S1 was stressed out over his midterms and said they were very difficult. He felt all he did was studying and still could not get good grades. He seems overwhelmed so it is hard for me to nag him about summer internship/job, etc. It is good that we will join him for the football game and his department tailgate party this weekend, so we can see what is going on.

I have a HS and college sophomore as well. I think it is such a tough year. I too have my daughter taking the PSAT under less than great circumstances with her recent illness and all the homework on top of sports-something is going to have to give next year for her.

My son is pretty stressed with his courseload as well. We have the dreaded Calc 3 which has already been beaten to death along with 2 other math classes and econ! He is pretty miserable-seems he has a lot of company.

Pepper--your DS is taking 3 math classes and econ all in the same semester??? Hugs to him, that's some load! Lots of problem sets, I'm sure.

Just got back from parent's weekend, the weather cooperated for once, hooray! I now can say the sun does actually exist in New Haven

Saw Book of Mormon on Broadway, it was hilarious- but super non-p.c., lol. Met S2's girlfriend of 6 months, very nice girl and very organized, I hope some of that rubs off on him, haha. Midterms were brutal for him, but were fortunately all finished so he could relax and spend time with us.

Just saw this web site, thought you all might get a chuckle out of it- how did we all miss this during the College Search?!

Pepper - good luck to your S on his interviews!

S (hs freshman) is taking his PSATs today. No news at all from him since the start of the week. I am trying, trying very hard NOT to send him a "how are things" email. Although my mom's bday is tomorrow - guess I'll have to remind both kids to give her a call

Hope all the sick kiddos are on the mend. We spent the weekend at parents’ weekend with S. Since he had 4 of his mid-terms the prior week he was ready for a break and for R & R. We took him and several friends to a casual dinner on Friday night. Its amazing how much the kids will eat when mom or dad is footing the bill! On Saturday, the weather was sunny and in the 60's. After a morning on-campus presentation about study abroad programs that was very well done and well attended, we met S and headed out on foot for the day in DC. We took the river front hiking and bike paths from Georgetown all the way to the Lincoln Memorial. We then walked the mall and gardens and viewed the Vietnam, WW II, and Korean War memorials and finished at the new MLK memorial. During the walk we detoured to the Smithsonian Natural history Museum to see the Ft McHenry / Star Spangled Banner flag that was restored and is now back on display. After seeing it a few years ago during restoration, it is quite a sight!

We cabbed back to the campus and returned to our hotel. We then met S for a nice dinner with just the family. It was his pick and he did well. D-14 was with us and she stayed the night in the dorm with him.

Following a Sunday family brunch provided by the College, we walked to the shops area to re-stock S with a few items from the local CVS that he forgot to ask us to bring him, It was then time for goodbyes and the six hour ride home.

The good news it that he is having a very good sophomore year. It’s hard to believe he and his friends are already talking about housing for junior year, study abroad options for junior year, and pre-registration for spring semester. He is home for Thanksgiving in less than 5 weeks and the term is over in less than 4 weeks after that.

Can anyone say book your reservations for graduation? LOL Hmm......... maybe a countdown is needed.
