Wow Elka, that's a resolution I didn't expect to hear, but hopefully, it will work out without any more drama from RM. Kudos for your guy and his group of friends for figuring it out!
mihcal - send me a pm if others don't help you out. My guy has some gal friends on his hall and would probably willingly help you out, but today is his super busy day from an early class to a late lab. I can call him tomorrow if you still need connections. He loves the school and appears to be in a "less-partying" dorm if that's a concern.
I'm looking forward to seeing him this weekend. I also just made plane reservations for Christmas break for him... (Thanks Eyemamom for that suggestion!)

Funny, when I was in my first semester at college (U of Texas) I had a suitemate (paranoid, I think) start choking me because of an imagined insult. There was another guy (his roommate) present, so I guess he would have prevented a murder had the guy not come to his senses (such as they were). It was one of the worst moments of my life, but I never thought of reporting it to anyone or mentioning it to my parents. And nothing else ever happened, though I did move to another dorm the second semester.
So today D texted her mother that a "scary sounding man" had called her and left a message. What?! Someone from the bursar's office with a question.

Since I am new to this kid in college game, I need to throw this one out there:
Federal subsidized and unsubsidized loans thru Sallie Mae? I am understanding you don't start making payments until the student is out of college or drops below fulltime status. Is this correct? If you get the loans every year do they just add on to each other and then you start paying them under the above conditions?
If the above is correct, is there anything we need to do between now and then?
I ask because I have a feeling my S has recieved some correspondence from Sallie Mae, but do not know exactly what it is. I am hoping it is not something saying a payment is due and he hasn't told me anything about it yet.
May be time to remind him he will get financial information he needs to pass on to me or it may prevent him from getting future loans. I am just afraid a payment is due now and I am not aware of it.
Thanks for any insight!

NervousNellie1, that's right. If he has federal sub and unsub loans, they are in his name, and he will have had what they call "entrance counseling" in order to receive the loan. Nothing to pay right now, although if you choose, you can pay interest on the unsubsidized loan.
This publication spells out a lot of the information: http://www.direct.ed.gov/pubs/entrcounselguide.pdf
There is also an entrance counseling video available: Direct Loans—Counseling Videos |

S received correspondence from Sallie Mae. It was a solicitation for a credit card on his loan. I threw it out.

I hope everything works out with RM issues and sickness. My RM situation has been reduced to no speaking. I occasionally talk to one of my RMs.
Decided I won't go back to play. Mature decisions are always hard to make My mom gave me the choice and for a little while I considered going back. But I don't want to risk getting hurt again and it will be way worse than it is now (and it's pretty bad now).
Now I don't know what to do with myself because I really wanted to play a sport and belong to a team.

CPU --
What if you don't play a sport, but get involved with a different sort of "team", some other special interest group/club?

CPU, I totally understand how you feel but give yourself way more time to heal and open yourself to other sports that may be much gentler on your body.
I have a friend whose son was head of his HS fencing team and was supposed to do it in college. He tore his rotator cuff and is now no longer fencing. Stuff happens, it happens to all of us. You have to revise what you thought you would be doing with what you are able to do and sometimes those other opportunities, which would never have occurred to you before, end up being really good choices.

CPU - soccer? I understand if you join your house intramurals team, you can probably try several different sports as opposed to one because not enough people participate and they can't always find enough people to field a team.

I'm going to be more involved with the Kennedy School of Government which is something I wanted to do with rugby but didn't have time for both. I liked being an athlete, and I was really excited to get back into it after I had to stop track after injuries in 10th grade.
I don't know about upperclassmen house Intramurals but freshmen IMs are a once in a while thing. There's a game here or there but no structured practice/team, consistent game schedule, etc. I missed the environment that being on a varsity sport in HS provided for me. Rugby and crew are the only walk-on varsity/club sports; the other sports have try outs, only 6 or so spots each year, and if you have never played before there's a 99.99% chance you won't make it versus other people who've been playing for a lot longer.

| I am so impressed!!! You have amazing spirit, and Harvard (along with Kennedy School or intramural sports or team/club/activity you end up joining) is lucky to have you!
