Even on the last day of this thread (and I'm one who is already feeling nostalgic at its demise), you wonderful people are bringing the latest in AP news. S2 is winging his way back from London right this sec, so we'll find out his scores pretty soon. He's going to orientation/registration in 2 weeks, so it will be great to know what he might skip in advance. I'm hoping for a good AP Art History score, because that will waive him out of a GE course. His AP Bio score from last year has waived him out of another. Those are the only 2 required courses that may be waived through AP w/scores of 4 or 5, so I'm keeping fingers crossed. With a double major in the works (we'll see), he needs every spare unit free. His other APs can give elective credit.
Good luck to all the other kids here as they hear word.
And see you all on the new thread.

Good news for S's AP scores as well. He will get to place out of everything he was hoping to be able to place out of.

Greetings from BU orientation. I have a great view of the Charles River from my campus apartment, but dorm beds leave a lot to be desired. The big message to parents is to let go and let our freshmen make their own decisions.
Thanks for all the support and comraderie we've shared on this thread. See you on the new thread.

Madbean - you have a right to feel nostalgic. Earlier today, I went back and read the first few pages of this thread, just wanting to get a feel for what was on people's minds back then. Several very familiar names popped up on the first couple of pages.... Missypie, Slitheytove, MaMom, and YOU....I stopped reading after three pages so I'm sure there are others who've been on the thread since the beginning.

Safe travels to your ds madbean. I have been trying all day to think of something appropriate as my last post here...something eloquent as others have done. I type away, my words get mucked up, i tear up, I laugh remembering the oddest things about the year. It's been an amazing ride. I showed up here a year ago April and "you had me at hello". Someone quickly called my DS Bluejr, I was at home, and the rest, as they say, is history. I have come here to celebrate my family and yours and have treasured each of you. I thought earlier today that a really enterprising person could find an entertaining book in this thread.
I think the only thing that could possibly make me feel any better, any more connected, is to finally send a request to 2education to join the shutterfly group. Yes, I finally have Bluejr's blessing.
Hugs to you my dear friends!! See you on the flip side!! |

Aw geez I am getting a bit teary over a thread! And we'll still "see" each other tomorrow. I am truly a softie. And to take a leaf from the kids' book (quoting songs):
Once before I go
I want you to know
That I would do it all again
I'm sure I'd make the same mistakes
But I could make it through
The pains and joys and aches
I knew back then
I'd do it all
I'd do it all again
See you in our new secret batcave location.

Another grateful parent here. You have no idea how much I have learned from you. I can't imagine where S would be headed it I had depended on his GC to give him direction. (or I had left S on his own). Thank you so much!
and thank you momof zach - I know have S's AP scores! Physics B was a 4!!!!! yes, yes, yes. His physics teacher butted heads with S and in Feb actually sent H an email during class on the class computer while everyone in class was watching that he wanted S out, he was done with him blah, blah, blah. In the ADD assesement he filled out for S in March (which the psychologist showed us) he basically stated that S was either retarded or on drugs. S also did well enought on ecconomics and calc to pass out of those classes but will retake because he is a finance major. The 4 in physics and last years school in history will allow him to pass out of two core classes which are really just survey classes for non majors. yippee!!

LOL, I had forgotten that I was an early poster on this thread. From 4-29-08: Quote: |
I think my 9th grader will be perfectly happy attending a large state university. If so, her 529 account may just pay for it all!
| Ummm...not....
See y'all on the other thread!

We may be the only ones with no AP tests. ShawD's school doesn't believe in teaching to the AP tests. She took several courses, including Advanced Biology (they don't even call it AP), which are at the AP level but deeper and less broad. My advice to her was echoed by the biology advisor at her new university: "Don't try to place out. No high school course will cover what we cover and people who have placed out suffer in the next course." She had I think three years of AP level French, but she's going to start Hebrew instead. And, she's going to retake calculus, which I think will help her understanding and make the first semester a little easier.
Thanks for all the advice and see you on the new thread.

momjr - Enjoy your Charles river view! That's terrific. Walking along the river was the best thing I had in Boston in 2009.
