Congrats to everyone who received happy news over the weekend!

Woody I loved your long Earlham report and would love to read any more you care to write about the schools you visited. I am still sad that S didn't apply to Earlham.

We're still waiting on FA packages and 3 more accepts, all reachy. S was waitlisted at Denison which was not a big surprise. Senioritis kicked in early and has, IMO, really hurt him with the RD schools. One school (still not heard from) has called his GC more than once to ask for grade updates on one specific class, I'm afraid they're not getting what they hope to get.

I am grateful he has some good options already and find myself thinking more and more about those.

He had applied to Stony Brook but not the special programs. HIs GPA was too low and required a special essay. Will now need to investigate what this gets him - it mentions priority registration etc. Only 7% of the freshman class so we are very proud. Son won't really care since he's still hoping for the ED school. Ah well.

Grats on Denison, Lisabees! Very neat school.

D's still waiting on 5 (Stanford and 4 LACs). Pretty much all April 1 or last day of March, so no action expected in our household for almost two weeks. Nice to have a drama break, actually.

I received an inquiry for additinoal financial information from a university’s financial aid office. Does it imply that I have already been accepted?

Please comment. Thanks

lisabees.. Congrat's on Denison!!! Awesome.

Skier... "S won't really care as he is waiting on his ED school".... TOTALLY with you there. I think my DS is paralyzed until he hears from his ED school.. I can't wait for that decision to be here... one way or the other. He has some great options so far and he won't even discuss them until his ED is on or off the table..ARGH!!

OBM.. sorry about the waitlist... I am pretty sure my DS is going to get some bad news in the next week or so because he had a mixed bag mid-year report.. nothing horrible, but wish he would have had some more A's on there to prove he could be more than a B+ student..*SIGH*

DS received a YES today from Macalester. He's thrilled since he really likes Mac, and this is his first LAC offer. Waiting on 7 more schools, mostly at the end of March. But DS is relaxed now that he has a big uni and a LAC to consider.

Congrats on all the Ohio offers. I am beginning to think that Ohio has more LACs than any other state.

I'm mellow about the WL and so is he. Denison is tied for him with a school he's already into with $. So it may be a case of the universe just making that decision easy. We'll see.

B+'s on S's midyear would have been awesome. 5boys I think that your S will do well.

Jaylynn -- Congrats on your D's dance honor!

lisabees -- Great news on the $ from Denison. Fingers crossed for Oberlin!

WhereTwo -- Congratulations on the Macalester acceptance!

skier29 -- You had mentioned that your older son got a NM corporate scholarship. Do you or your husband work for a sponsoring company? How good are the odds when you don't have a corporate connection?

My DH works for a corporation whose foundation sponsors a VERY generous scholarship. It is administered by NMSC but you must be a affiliated with the sponsoring corporation to be eligible. Makes a huge difference for us as his school allows it to reduce EFC!

There are other corporations that will allow their schoilarship funds to be used for "non-affiliated" students but I'm afraid I don't know much about them. But they do exist.

So DD will hear from 2 on Friday, 3 next week and 4 who knows when. Seems like we will be bringing up the rear of this parade. Good news is this weekend she goes to an honors weekend at the EA school. Whatever happens she will at least have a break at a school she knows wants her.

DD is on break this week and and is occupying herself with extra riding lessons, community theatre rehearsals, job hunting, prom dress shopping and cleaning out her sock drawer. Not too excited about studying for AP Euro (my suggested activity) which she needs to do to take the test since her class does not align with the suggested curriculum. She is generally not too stressed - although her friends are hearing every day. She was a little shaken by two friends who got early writes at selective LACs, one of which is on her list. They are great students, and URMs, so maybe that pushes them into the early write pile. But she knows the general results from her schools are not out yet, so not too stressed about it. The spectacular weather is helping too.

So I will quote my nephew (also a 2012) and say I want to hear right away, but only if it is good news. Glad you are all here to obsess with...bon chance to us all

So much happy news to read about...loved woodys report about the love house, missed the typo... There is an ad on TV here to attend "UTI". Everytime I see the name on the screen, I think "urinary tract infection". I'm a tired retired nurse

S got his Denison acceptance today with $20K/year scholarship. He really liked that school alot, so it will stay in the mix - at least until we see the rest of the FA. But it does move Wooster off the table.

Still waiting on 8 more decisions - but luckily it will all be over next Thursday. If he gets into one of his 'lottery' schools he will go there.

W&M FA package had $9500/year in loans - ouch! Luckily they accepted my change in income projection from my recent job loss, so it would still be doable with much less loans.

It will be interesting to see if all the other schools accept my new projected numbers - it changes my EFC from $24K/kid to $12k/kid. BIG difference...

On another front, I completed the FAFSA for S10 and it came back with $50K EFC. I did the verification with IRS and there was obviously a problem - thinking it was the 401K rollover to IRA my H did when he changed jobs last year - and they counted it wrong when they imported the numbers. But I will have to wait a few days to go back and correct it - if I even can. UGHHH!

I am late with condolences as I have been out of town. So sorry to Woody about your Mom.

My D and I read the Clam Fart thread for the first time. I was crying with laughter and D got very invested in finding out the outcome. I fear a new family joke about "clam farting" has taken hold here.

I sent documents to A&M about D's other full ride offer as they had requested, but we got a response back almost immediately declining to match this offer....ummm, you guys ASKED me to send them after volunteering to give her the matching money. Not sure what to make of the whole thing, since we didn't send them unsolicited or anything.

Whoever asked if Ohio has the most colleges:

Quote:
According to Digest of Education Statistics, there were 4,216 degree-granting institutions in the United States during the 2004–05 school year.

California was home to 399, more than any other U.S. state. In second was New York (307), followed by Pennsylvania (260), Texas (208) and Ohio (194).

I wonder if there are stats for "most LACs" because I think Ohio has a shot there
