We just sent emails to the admissions office. For one school, though, my son will need to call tomorrow (he's been dreading it) since we have built quite a relationship with them and it's been reallllly hard to come to the point of declining.

In the end, my son has concluded that getting the education he wants at the college he wants is worth spending between $20,000 and $35,000 total for 4 years. The free college (ok, he could make money there) has been so tempting but..... maybe by being invested monitarily- having to work, using savings, hustling to get scholarships-perhaps that will make him more appreciative? I hope so.

My dh is a little more on board since we did get about $1,500 more a year from one school, bringing it closer in line with the others.

So is he looking at MIT or Princeton or are there others still involved? Or can't you say yet?! Looking forward to hearing everyone's decisions soon (including my son's!)!

And in a different update, my son just stopped on the way home from tennis to pick up ingredients for waffles (we just bought a new waffle iron so evidently on his own initiative he looked up a recipe and bought what he needed). Hm, he must have a lot less faith in my cooking ability than I thought. He bought everything on the list - including things like sugar, flour, vanilla, eggs and cooking oil. Coming as probably not a huge shock to everyone (except him), I actually have all those thing at home!

My coworker came up to me and said she was really upset when she saw my FB posts talking about how I and my D "loved Kenyon. " There is a bus driver in our district that was arrested for driving drunk whose name is Kenyon...

So, I guess it is likely that more people in my area think Kenyon is a disgraced drunkard instead of a college.
Okay, this has to be my favorite CC post ever. I mean, ever. Puts it all in context.

marciemi, that is an adorable story. They are so sweet and so young still....and off they go.

Funny thing is my D does the same. She loves to bake and always buys her own sugar, butter, etc. I've been scratching my head over that. Anyone with explanation?

Absweetmarie - I would've loved if D could've gone to Southwestern but they don't offer the majors she's interested in. I used to live in Georgetown when I first moved to Texas a zillion years ago. Such a beautiful campus and it's always had a good reputation. Plus, 10 of her 14 cousins and 5 aunts/uncles from her dad's side of the family all live nearby so she could've always called one up if she wanted to get off campus for awhile. Oh, well!

One of her friends came back from Trinity (in San Antonio) this weekend with a shirt that had the college name in big letters on the front and "I'm in!" printed in gigantic letters on the back.

Yes, UC has an on-line option to decline - or at least the two UC's D declined both did. I am sorry, but I don't remember where it was since those were two early declines. The UC Davis one was easier to find - D tends to click to fast and then not find what she wants, so I took over and managed to find the decline option for UCSC for her. All the remaining schools (one OOS public and three LAC's) were all done by cards that she filled out and then were mailed postage paid... And I already had someone not on CC but who also has a 2012 kid tell me I should be doing all the Pomona stuff on-line, but they too seem to want a check sent, along w/ the acceptance form, etc., by snail mail. Sent it today - woo hoo!

Glee made me tear up tonight. I wanted to lunge across the couch and grip the girl until she couldn't breathe . . . so hard to let them go even though it's time. I just sent off a 2nd grade photo for senior night next Monday at the last regular season home game. It seems like just yesterday. I feel like I might break out in a chorus of 'Sunrise, Sunset' at any moment.

Oh, don't tell, saintfan!!!! I am two episodes behind. I am assuming it is a graduation episode.

DS ordered his "official sweatshirt" today to wear in pictures for his graduation picture board. I have to start creating that next week as well as find pictures for the theater and senior honors banquets.

I won't tell but it's hard. We watch them in real time on regular tv - crazy, I know.

Pino had a funny riff over on the empty nest thread about crying at long distance ads on TV. It reminds me of that pregnancy hormonal emotional thing. As one good friend said, "I can't see a Maxwell House ad on TV without bawling!" They get you coming and going.

It is one of the shows I watch with DS, so since he is almost never home, I get behind. Oh I can't wait!

mimk6: only about 5 days left and then the agony will be over...it has to be.

My D has a countdown on her iphone for when freshman orientation starts - she is so excited and I am so happy for her. I thought I would feel a lot of regrets over Ohio State but each day I feel more confident she is going to the right place.

I was thinking about when all this started her first dream college (in 6th grade) was Stanford. I don't know how she knew about it but perhaps it was that she liked the location. LOL. How far we have come!

mspearl: S3 announced in 6th grade that he was going to MIT (fancied himself to be a budding engineer). My friend's twin daughter who was 14 years old at the time asked him, "What is MIT?"
He said, "Only the best engineering school in the world." In June, she and her twin sister will be graduating from MIT, and S3 is now 'undecided'. Yes, how far we have come! LOL
