Thanks for the reassurance. I just found out that all bedlofts at my D’s school come with safety rails, so now I feel better. I also learned that only one bed may be lofted per room, so maybe my daughter will decide to stay “grounded.”

jaylynn, i totally agree! I am so excited to go official shopping- we have picked up bits and pieces, but I have a color coded list complete with a pretty pictured title page that is on my coffee table mocking my existence. But all my girl has done lately is work - like about 40 hours a week.

Looks like this Sunday will be the big day!

ms pearl - I don't know if anyone referenced this:

Bunk bed safety already a topic here and it sounds semi dangerous unfortunately Best to be forewarned. Makes interesting cautionary reading.

Fatal fall results in complaint for damages | The Daily

maidenmom: unfortunately, this particular case was 3rd floor and there have been a number of others. Not turning this into a Greek thread, just a reminder about lofts and windows.

D just told me that the reason only one loft can be rented per room is because the other bed is already lofted. So she’ll definitely be up in the air and I’ll just have to leave this one to God and his helicopter parenting (only mediocre compared to ours ).

All this talk about bed lofting made me get OCDish about it-- D wants to do it but I didn't know if we'd have to buy a kit, build it, etc etc. So I emailed the housing office and BAM got a reply within five minutes (awesome!). All beds come with a set of railings that allow students to choose how high to loft or not. Yay! And maybe part of that railing set is a safety rail.

Also-- D's school, during their Welcome Week (the ten days AFTER orientation, during the first week and a half of school) has a party at the local Target where the Target is open only to them at 10:30; the kids get bussed there-- discounts, freebies, snack and a DJ. How fun would THAT be??

Our mail just came today and still no AP scores. Is there anyone else in SoCal (specifically in the Los Angeles area) who hasn't gotten theirs yet? Most of S's friends got them a week ago!

he was glad pretty quickly when he realized he really liked just being able to walk in the room and sit on the bed rather than climb up and down all the time. It’s a good place to hang out, not just sleep.
I wonder whether kids in suite-style dorms are more likely to loft the beds, because there is a common area with couches for hanging out?

Mom2jl -- AP scores arrived Monday here (coastal So.CA).

still no AP scores where we live but did get the BBB coupon for 20% of whole purchase! Makes me happy!!
S curious about AP scores but admitted he did nto work his hardest preparing for these - only one could count for credit and then he would have to take the harder calculus class. Since he does not plan to be a math or engineering major he plans on retaking a similar level of calc regardless of ap score. I have to admit I was a little bummed at first that he was not putting a massive effort behind these ap's but realized that what he said made sense and the extra effort required did not match the potential gains.

but having this BB&B coupon is extrememly worthwhile!

Just checked the carnegie mellon housing website:

"Safety rails and ladder for lofted or bunked bed"

Glad about that.

I too worry about my D and the lofting of the bed. She sleeps diagonal most nights on her full bed. I am praying there will be a rail for her bed!

We got APs on Friday in this part of Indiana and an inch of rain in a thunderstorm last weekend. Expecting rain (scattered showers) right during the time of the outdoor Shakespeare production of Midsummer's Night Dream.
