I agree with weatherga - the AP honors don't really matter much at this point. I know by the time S'10 got his letter, high school felt pretty far back in his rear view mirror. I know he was already away at school, because I called him to tell him he'd gotten it.

Creekland - enjoy the one on one time with your son! And congrats to him on the good AP scores! I forget - what is he intereste din majoring in at UR?

D2012, interning at JPL for the summer, has scored two tix to the landing party for the Mars Science Laboratory! She's invited D2015 to go with her.

That JPL party sounds a lot more exciting than AP Scholar stuff! How nice of mihcal1's D to include her little sis.

We realized D's score were incomplete when she received her AP Scholar letter last August. It was for a different level, which made us realize one test was "missing". A quick phone call straightened it all out (she bubbled her SSN one year and not the other).
AP does automatically generate the certificate.

mihcal1 Congrats on the landing party--so cool!

So DS has a summer reading assignment after all! he just received a book for his tutorial. "Theory of Fun for Game Design". Not a bad assignment, all things considered.

D also is National this year - but at senior awards they could only be honored for the level reached after Junior year (with distinction) - The National is all after the fact and will probably arrive this fall.

I'm glad I learned S gets an AP award, though at this point it doesn't really matter, he only took 1 AP as a junior and 2 this year. Oh well, still nice

Just looked up the AP awards and figured my son will get honors with distinction this year. When I mentioned it to him just now he asked me why I still cared and am bothering to read about such things. He is sooooo past it!!

i was going over the checklist with s and hubby this afternoon to figure out what we wanted to buy here, online and what should wait til we get there. Plus things need to be bought all over the place.

Hubby asked if he was getting excited at all for college - son says, I'm really just in denial, I'm not thinking about it at all. This is the kid who clung to me starting school and had a near nervous breakdown going to middle school, then high school. So it doesn't surprise me. I found out the roommate info gets mailed out Monday and he's going to have to at least fake it with the new roomie. However, the denial is making it difficult to get him to make choices on things and start shaking a leg a little shopping. I believe we're at the 5 week countdown and it would help to spread things out a bit shopping so we can be sure to think everything through. I look at the schools facebook and those kids are so stinking excited and I feel like I've got a bit of a dud here.

I feel you, eyemamom. My D is more the anxious, wussy type, though she's quite social at school. She's kind of scared stiff, actually, about going away. She's gotten a little more excited as we buy dorm stuff; I think the shopping/girly nature of that helps a bit. Our weekend when we take her to school is going to be rough. I'm thinking her school (a not-so-big private) will help-- they have a jam-packed orientation and first couple of weeks. But I am worried. I don't think we have duds-- we just have kids who are very attached to us because of a combination of personality types, family style, and great mamas!!

My daughter has a Sept 6 bday and was old for her kindy class-- at kindy roundup, she was well over a year older than some of the kids there-- and who was the only one sobbing and wrapped around my leg? Yup. My girly, the oldest one there. Sigh.

eyemamom, I have been reading the FB forum for UR as well and it is fun to hear the chatter. I suggested my S join but he has not. It is funny how kids can say one thing that sounds negative but then later turn around and talk about an experience like it was the best thing.

I had to encourage my S to do the overnite but after he did it he kept saying, " I was told you should do this with your class schedule and the kid from my overnite said not to take that music class."

I imagine your son will be like that too after he gets there. Right now it is so unreal but after he gets through orientation he will feel more a part of the place.

We will be out of town when the packet comes next week. I am pretty anxious to see if my S is matched with someone he clicks with.

So AP scores finally arrived up in the NE corner of the country, and add me to the list of those calling to get a consolidated report issued. I may just try to email. However, her junior year lit score gets her out of both semesters of the freshman writing requirement, so we relly need to get it sorted out before she registers at orientation in September.

This year's scores get her credits, but more importantly gets her out of 1 of 2 required math distribution classes, and exempts her from all but one of 6 semesters of foreign language/culture requirements. She will take Spanish anyway, but can go right to a lit or history class. She is a very happy camper.
