Yikes... For the first night in a while, I was going to be mostly home alone for the first time in two weeks. D was going to practice and then out with friends. I had a completely vegetative night planned. Now H has called and said he changed his flight and is coming back tonight and can I pick him up at the airport. What does it say that even though he's been gone since Weds, I am not thrilled with his impromptu return. And by "not thrilled," I mean deeply disappointed. Talk about conflicted!!!!

Congrats on the recent acceptances, including woody! This has been a tough year at D2's school as well. She attends a private school where many students feel a lot of pressure to attend a 'top' school - however that is defined. Fortunately, at the end of the day, everyone just needs one good choice.
On another note, many thanks to all who offered white dress suggestions! The winner is ... the Lily dress that (I think) missypie liked. We ordered it, and it fits, and D2 looks cute in it. . Yay!

I thought the white Lilly Pulitzer dress was adorable - glad someone young and cute will wear it!
Congrats, Woody. I am impressed.
S had a good day so far - after the EARLY start time of 4:15 am, qualified for state in a second category in forensics. And received notification in the mail he had won a local scholarship. This one is special, because it's in memory of his guidance counselor's D, who was killed in a car accident while a teenager. She was a gifted artist and writer, and the award is for a student at our HS who excels in the arts.
D turns 21 tomorrow, which is already today in London. A running joke over the years was telling her school was cancelled due to snow (April Fools). It happened to her for real in kindergarten in NY, and I think it may have snowed last year in Boston around then? Tomorrow's forecast here is for 90 degrees! That is way too hot - I'd rather have snow!
Now if our basketball team can just pull it out like they seem to every game. And alas, while one of the winning tickets was sold in our area, my ticket did not match a single number. Maybe there's a chance I know the winner?

congrats, woody. The report that you(?) posted does suggest that there will be real demand for nursing PhDs.

Hey - congrats CQS! That is awesome and I remember your mentioning that very scholarship about the guidance counselor. How nice to have chosen your S!! Woot!
I loved that lily dress! An updated classic. I am sure it will be adorable.
D got her prom dress while visiting in AZ and while I honestly think they bought it a size too big, were going to take it to be tailored in a few weeks. D has lost quite a bit of weight from the whole tonsillectomy but will surely gain at least a few pounds back. Definitely easier to take a dress in than it being too tight. It's like a nude blush color and looks absolutely wonderful with D's coloring. Can you believe I am actually having to talk her into getting her hair highlighted?

Thanks for the kind dress words, dte, cq, and moda. And congrats on the scholarship (cq) and prom dress (moda)! No prom dress here yet - an ongoing project.
Re college choice, D2 will be joining the Maine LAC contingent (ED to Bates). She went the 'one good choice' route, and is happy with the outcome. She's having a very strong senior year, and quite honestly might have fared pretty well if she had cast a wider net in RD. But that wasn't what she chose to do, and she has no regrets.
dte and moda, have your Ds made any decisions yet?

Bates is a great school ! Seems like this year was tough. I am glad to have avoided the whole IVY , elite , issues. No real decision here.

| Well they chose the right game to be in prime time.
So glad you bought that Lily dress. It looked like it would be so flattering.

Kudos, woody! You sound like you're going to be busy! And congrats to cqS.
I have been going nonstop on the old Mchouse Reno every weekend and some nights since Jan 1. But I gotta say, yesterday, my second last official day, was the worst. The garage was a bear. My arms are so sore from scraping and sanding I don't know if I can even move enough to use a mop today. My knee won't even bend. And I can hardly swallow because I have a major sore throat.
I am hoping the sore throat is just allergies from doing the lawn and mulching and sanding, because if I get sick now, right when I can finally relax and enjoy a weekend with mcson and gf, I'm going to be FURIOUS.
On the upside, the garage looks awesome, and mch and I didn't kill each other in the process, although there were points where we were not, shall we say, "two ends of a board at sea."
So, sabaray, is your puppy by any chance a Lab? Sounds lab-like in his loves
Puppies are hilarious. I wish I wasn't so allergic. I think I already told you guys that mch is a "dog-father" and watches his pal's pup on "puppy-cam."

| Odd thing to be going around, but it is. D had strep when she was home. At the same time, my sister from hundreds of miles away did, too. On Thursday, younger D had a bad sore throat but it only lasted a day. Now it's me.

| Indeed he is. Another big day yesterday- we had some trees that were storm damaged, so did some trimming and limb removal; he enjoyed "helping"; as in, he would hang on the end of a limb I was trying to move and pull in the opposite direction. Got the hose out to water and fill the bird bath; that was a lot of fun too. Nothing like a yellow puppy playing in mud.
On the plus side, he was so tired he slept until 7:00 am instead of his usual enthusiastic greet the day at 5:00 am.

sabaray, we were doing tree removal yesterday as well. We have never liked our house feeling like it is in the woods, so H had a crew take out nine medium sized trees plus all the huge holly trees in the front to open it up. We have four monster trees left in the front beds so maybe they will now fill out more. In a money saving move, H had the crew stack the wood from each tree in place where the tree was removed. H plans to take it to the back behind the shed for use as firewood someday. He made a dent on the smaller piles yesterday, but I have a feeling he is going to need several week-ends and help handling the logs from the biggest tree to complete that job.
We saw the 1990 French version of Cyrano de Bergerac last night (with English subtitles), along with an original short film by by Georges Méliès of Hugo fame. The director of the Bergerac film answered questions afterward and it was a simply spectacular event.
