RM -- no ideas, but I'm so sorry. Chronic pain is debilitating.

I have had issues with ortho's not figuring it out and my PT able to figure out the real problem. A sports medicine guy may have seen things like you have more often.

Do you have one of these near you? D thinks they are miracle workers.
What is Airrosti?

DTE, it sounds like she should sleep on it for a day or two and then finalize. She'd probably feel anxious if she had chosen UVA. But, I'm sorry she's not happy.

^hugs to dte and rm, and anyone else who needs a hug.

Shaw, I think you're right. Conference board just released it's survey of online job postings, which is up substantially, and GDP is up 2.2 percent -- moderate growth hampered by gas price pressure, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

That said, I notice that my recruiter client seem to many more job orders than in the recent past, yet won't/don't deal in new grads -- a trend that kind of irks me. IF companies would spend the energy on training new recruits that they spend courting passive candidates they hope to "steal" from competing companies, I don't think there'd be an unemployed stem major in North America. At the same time I can understand the modern reluctance to invest this way since loyalty seems to be a thing of the past. I'm not sure what to make of these trends.

TA, I completely understand your terror re u/e. All I can say is be grateful you don't have a child in the performing arts Or better yet, one child in performing arts who seems quite serious about a girlfriend also in the performing arts. Not to fast forward the videotape, but you can kind of imagine the worry fodder this scenario could engender

So, the pool continues to clear, and with my "content shock and awe" strategy, if there's a creature down there, it's probably dead by now! The overall color is now an opaque turquoise, and I can almost see shadows on the bottom of the shallow end where I suspect leftover leaves and silt have gathered. The deep end remains a mystery, but at least it's much better to look at!

Ps -- TA, published yes, but not for years and not long-form fiction. The book is the first long-form fiction work I've actually finished, and just recently. The people who were interested in it 15 years ago are likely retired or dead by now I am about to start a top to bottom edit and when I'm finished that, I will decide whether I'll go through the possibly heartbreaking process of shopping it or not. But I made good on a deathbed promise to my dad. So it feels good to have finished it!

As you may gather, I am a little ambivalent about writing. It was all I wanted to do as a child, but it was kind of drilled into my head that it was like playing the lottery and somehow an inferior thing to do with one's time(obviously, not by my dad, who was a fan
from the first day I won an award.) It was my mother's fear, which I understand. I also own the fact that I let that fear drive me, but find it ironic that the core of my continued subsistence is essentially writing for OTHERS

Mcson has been minorly published in a variety of small literary
mags/compilations/collections, but as strange as it sounds considering his vocational path, deep down I suspect he'll actually end up a writer. I have to work really hard not to let my own fear or baggage interfere with all that, believe me!

Moda, sorry to hear about all of the deaths in your area and kudos to your D for reaching out.

kmc, congrats on finishing your book. I don't think I have the attention span for a book, although I like the idea conceptually.

DTE, is your D starting to feel more excited about her decision as it sinks in?

RM...have you looked in to a pain clinic? Chronic pain is awful. Don't give up!

dte...know several kids who just wanted the process over with and chose their schools. A few regretted their choices but the majority were very happy in the end! I am sure she will figure things out and be excited. We just always told our girls that nothing is written in stone. As you know D2 changed her school and has been very happy. My advice is to follow your D's lead. And in a worst case scenario...if she has any scholarship offers from UVA hold on to that offer just in case something changes down the road. We found it valuable in negotiating transfer scholarships.

kmcmom -- H's company is modeling exactly what you mentioned: they have job openings, but the only folks who get considered already have some significant job experience. They're also losing contractors as the contractors are able to find FT work nearer where they live. What isn't working is either being a newbie or being a very experienced engineer who has been using the "wrong" technology.

D seems happier, I think she is overwhelmed at the end of the year things, senior project, dance competitions, and she is carrying alot of classes. plus she is class president, co-editor in chief of the newspaper, and has been asked to write an article for the school magazine on the headmaster who is retiring. for her senior project she is choreographing dances, teaching them and presenting them in recital form. She is an old soul such a mix of young and old, But when she makes up her mind its a steel trap and its done. She is also tired of the HS drama, that occurs especially when kids get stressed out.
She also got money for a co-op abroad. she says it is the decision that makes sense, but I know she was torn and would have liked to combine the schools. I guess this is the first life dilemma.
H is happy, less money. She just seemed happier at her prom dress decision. I guess because she could see how it looks . Thanks for all your support.

DTE, D's last year in studio dance was her sophomore year, but I do remember that about the competition season....doesn't really gear up until about February, and depending on where you do nationals, can last into July.

I haven't looked in to any alternatives or chronic pain yet. Hoping that this will be "fixed".

Called this morning to see what the next step would be and they told me to come in. They now think it is a tendon on the outside of the foot. Now that some of the swelling has gone down and I can articulate more where it hurts that seems to pointing in that direction. So a different brace and another course of steroids. Already feels a bit better with the support.

DTE - I'm glad to hear she's more pleased with the choice. Although how she has time to think is beyond me! That's a very busy young woman!
RM The above suggestions are really good and I can't add to them except for a cyberhug. I hate the idea of living with pain.
We visited MIL in the rehab center in VA. She's made progress but not nearly enough for them to justify holding a bed for her. She will be discharged in two weeks. Ugh...

I know I am going to spell this incorrectly but i had a tendonitis on my calf, went undiagnosed as they attributed to my knee, ANYWAY... they used iontopheresis -a topical cortisone that is delivered with a machine (electrical) and it was magic.
thanks everyone you are the best!
