FallGirl, it is where she interned. Their process has been a good lesson in how long things at a big company can take. She probably should prepare herself for more of the same! While she had an email confirming the details of the verbal, I think every step that was intended to reassure her that her packet was in process only served to make her more anxious. She didn't want to keep interviewing but felt she had to until she had those formal details in front of her.
I enjoyed the VP debate. I'm hoping the debate tonight is as good as that one. I like to follow twitter as well while watching, just to see if other folks are reacting in the same way. While I don't tweet, I do find it to be a good source of news.
TheAnalyst, how was the Folk Festival?

It takes months for us to hire a new lawyer...for those who have worked before, we have to run conflicts checks of any client they have represented against our clients. I'm sure that some of the lateral hires are feeling no financial pain at all, but I always wonder what if someone needed this new job to pay the rent and put food on the table. It could be a long few months between a great interview and a pay check.

Some excitement in the neighborhood last night. A pizza place about a mile from here was robbed at gunpoint and the suspect ran in to our neighborhood which has large wooded lots and a trail that runs behind my house. My neighbor just called and told me the helicopter was hovering over our house and yard for 30 minutes with searchlights looking for the suspects. She said she ran around locking doors and H and I missed the whole thing as we watched TV in the lower level! And our four season door was unlocked and open as we had it painted yesterday!!! No idea if they caught anyone. Guess all of the kids were tweeting as it was happening.

OOH! Northminn! Glad you're OK! Did they catch the perps??
I can't watch anything political as in-laws are on the opposite spectrum. FOX remians on 24/7. Yesterday I came home from work and went in their designated TV viewing area to say hi. Some former Dem was on trashing the president. FIL said, 'See, see how balanced FOX is!' I just smiled, and nodded.

NM, I’m glad you are OK. Sabaray, the Folk Festival was spectacular. A couple of the musicians are friends of my mother and had dinner with her Saturday night. My favorite was Wayne Henderson, but there were lots of really great artists.
Well, fall recruitment is over and S did not get a single interview opportunity. He is disappointed, needless to say, and my heart hurts for him. Hopefully, it will be a better spring if all of the strongest candidates are already committed. S1 is really enjoying his new assignment, but doesn’t expect to be able to email much because Internet access is apparently expensive at the hotel and he doesn’t want to send personal emails while at work. I’m going to miss hearing from him.

Leaving for RI early (sigh) tomorrow for D's "white coat" ceremony. She asked if we want to see the anatomy lab with the cadaver bag open or shut. I am thinking shut...
I have grown to hate flying. i hate packing and I hate security (hangover from the early 70's and driving into Mexico--I still get the sweats).
I thought of you, Shaw, as my H never travels with a suit or even sports jacket ( after all there is no where to wear one in Oregon). But I have insisted as this is the East Coast but then he has no appropriate suitcase.
MS--loved the food fest at the fair.
Woody-- oh yes, understand the in-laws and Fox. H laughed when my brother called and I said we "were watching some TV" when we were watching CNN.
And congrats to so many of the rest of you for your kids and their achievments.
Our '13er at least sent some pictures of his lovely 7 month old. S is working and returns to school winter quarter, his WIFE! is nice with me and has returned to school, his baby is thriving. So. I guess it all could be worse.

Well, I tried fried green tomatoes and the new bbq joint in town -- and they were pretty darned fabulous. I have to admit to being pretty dubious of the concept, but it worked.
Don't think I could deal with a whole day of fair food though.
Oregon -- congrats on the white coat ceremony. A friend went to one recently for her daughter. (A sunny-side up kid -- graduated in May from a small regional LAC, decided IN MAY that she wanted to get into a MD/PhD program, interviewed in June, got an acceptance and started the MD portion of the program in August. And, all 6 years are fully funded. I am astounded. Great kid...but I am still astounded.)

Arabian---as u should be! Not really a typical situation but great! for her. Sincerely.
D was theater,French, English major. Then did Teach for America in the bronx 2 Years. Then a year of publishing, then 2 years of sciences then a year of applications (bare with me as I am going somewhere). DIL. Announced that she will be an m.d. With plans to move to Alaska for loan forgiveness when her baby it 8 years old. All the time S is saying how much he loves having her large extended family ( something I always knew would be good for him but could not offer).
I hope the best for my DIL but she is 20 with a child and a husband.
Well! Wouldn't it be something if she made it'

Hey Fallgirl, what's your son's twitter handle (just kidding)
Oregon, stranger things have happened. I'm glad she's thinking ahead about loan forgiveness!
Hugs to TheAnalyst and s2.
St. Woody, you really ARE a saint. Hope there are some girlfriends and a big bottle of
wine in your future as outlaw respite so you can let your hair down.
NM, glad you're safe and sound. I likely mentioned it last summer, but I had just left town to go visit my folks, about a 4 hr drive most days. Got there and they were watching "my" neighborhood on national television as a multi-murderer was on the lam and hiding out. Mch and mcson were in lock-down mode, but in getting to the house from our studio, had passed by the intersection where a few minutes later the perp, running from police, had shot into a crowd and stole a car. He did end up taking two hostages in their own home a few blocks away, and eventually shot himself after a long standoff but no harm to the people in the house. It was anxiety provoking to be so far away with mcson and mch trapped in the midst of all this.

oregon - that would be great if she made it. And congrats to your D.
Analyst - sorry to hear about S2 and the interviews. I know that from everything I have read about him here he is a hard worker and has lots of other great qualities and I have a lot of faith in him. It will happen.
NM- I'm glad you are OK. Did they catch the guy?
S is taking the PSAT today, junior year and if he does well...He has the ability so I'm sending out a prayer and keeping my fingers crossed for him.
Oh, and I said nothing "quotable" last night!

Analyst - hugs to you. I know he'll be OK though... very resourceful kid. Maybe things will change once the election cycle is over.
Oregon - what fun with D! And amzing plans for DIL!!
KMC - H is constantly on the road but I have a huge circle of friends who are always available to go out with me. I keep my complaining to a minimum though - nobody wants to hear that constantly. Actually, neither do I!
D called -overly stressed out. Was in her studio till 3AM - alone in a deserted building. Didn't exactly make me happy. I told her if that happens again to call me when she is leaving so we can be in contact until she is in her car or home. Some terrible assaults have occurred on her campus in the past few weeks. Very scary and I hate to have her take unnecessary risks.

Don't know if they caught the robber!
Heading out of town for the night. Going to a friend's lake home with some girlfriends for a shopping and Holiday Home Tour. I love this event! Talk with you all when I get back!

| Being in a non-swing state, we are fortunate to have few political ads so far. But there is a contested state senate race and I have the commercials memorized. The female candidate was a single mother at 19, living in a mobile home, got a scholarship to TCU, then went to Harvard Law School.
!!! on the perps near home stories. I think I've told the story of the hostage situation in the house across the street when Son was a baby.
Last night my city meeting ran very late. Got home around 11:30 and Son had waited for me to watch the debate. We went to bed around 2:45 am because we kept stopping the DVR to comment. Son and I are equal opportunity candidate mockers...perhaps a bit more stinging to the "other guy" but plenty of humor aimed at our guy, too. We kept each other quite amused. Two things I loved about the debate:
1. Everyone in the audience was nicely dressed up. I'm pretty sure most of those guys don't wear coats and ties every day, but nice to see them dressed respectfully for the occasion.
2. I love that they gave the audience members disposable cameras after the debate. I don't know that I could have sat there for hours wihout my purse (I'm a lip gloss addict). There were a few "first time votes" (20 year olds) in the audience and I'm pretty sure that after they took pictures with the disposable cameras they were asking people how to download the pictures onto their iPhones.

I am thinking of posting a sign at our front door:
1. We do not want to talk with you about the election. Any election.
2. We do not make decisions based on campaign literature. Even yours. So please don't leave it.
The number of door-knockers this year is unbelievable. I guess it is good news and bad news that we're in a state that counts.
Moda -- sometimes you just can't win for losing. A little early for a cocktail, but a nice cup of coffee, and a half hour spent with a good (non-political) book?
