Sigh.....MIL and SIL have volunteered to take my my girls shopping for their dorm rooms. I am graciously accepting their sweet offer but am a little sad. Harriet we were planning the BB&B Pack and Hold option. Will suggest that MIL and SIL take that option as well.
How long ahead of move-in do you make your initial choices?
expecting housing info later this month
No clue about computers but MIL is getting those for girls for grad gift. She has even less clue but will consult the resident expert, my nephew who also attends SMC.
I think D will know within a week or so about Scripps.
Woke up this a.m. at about 3:00 after a dream that I was leading my kids down a tunnel and when we got to the end we learned we were inside a dam and I almost fell into the turbine. They were able to safely get out but I when I woke up I was trying to decide if I should let go and follow. Any interpretations?

Really! Despite the expiration date(s), BB&B honors their coupons. And despite the "one per visit" fine print, they've always let me pile them on, too.

Thanks HMW, that makes sense. Off to Twitter I go....
Are your kids freaked out that their parents are on FB & Twitter? Mine are split. My D is ok w/ it and allowed me to be her friend but my S is having nothing to do w/ me. I do a friend request once every two weeks or so but he always rejects me. I told him all I want for my birthday next week is to be his FB friend... hahahaha... quilt him into it |

My older two invited me to follow them both on Twitter, but we aren't Facebook friends, and I'm okay with that.
D frequently sends me FB pictures (you can share them with non-FB people, or people you're not FB friends with, through a particular link), though I'm sure she's editing her collection heavily.

We got the linen purchase package flyer too, and I think S's school may be the only college that doesn't participate!
Feels like we're just in the calm before the next storm around here. His last AP exam (hooray!) is tomorrow, and he's mentally DONE. I'm not sure what his teachers are doing as far as finals, but hopefully not much. He goes to a freshman preview overnight the end of June, and the rest of summer is still up in the air. I'm leaning to letting him totally relax, but that's a lot of gaming time!

I'm considering the new student pack linen package that the college D is going to has. Price seems right and no running around. She seems good with it too although we haven't yet really looked at the colors and when we do there will probably be nothing she likes. Currently though it sounds like the right thing to do.

All this talk of buying linens and tension rods and last AP exams is making me want to cry. Can I go back to the 09 thread? I'm not ready for college!

I am definitely not ready for twitter or facebook. I can barely keep up with cc and market news.
H thinks we can use S1's sheets for S2 since he is out of dorm now and using a regular bed. I need to dig down to the bottom of the linen closet and try to find them. By the way, we put a nice long slash in a brand new twin comforter on move-in day for S1 by using a box cutter to cut something or other on the newly made bed. Luckily, I had my sewing kit with me but that damage very nearly caused me to have a total melt-down. S1 of course didn't care.

Good morning all. Wow--so happy to see everyone here. Someone suggested we put our HS '09 thread at the top of this one so that we can find it easily over the years --is there still a way to do this?

Posting on this new thread is making me teary - what in the world am I going to be like come August? Wait, no more nagging, no more fighting to get S out of bed, no more eye rolls, a clean bedroom, and hopefully a happy young man entering adulthood. I'll be thrilled!

Huh? I go to sleep, go to work, and this is what happens? We've graduated?
S and I have been looking at laptops - no Dells! I've suffered through Dell customer service and never, ever, ever want to repeat that experience. I think S will probably go with an HP.
I'm also looking at memory foam mattress toppers. But nobody ever bought me a mattress topper when I went to college! Did they even exist back then?
Twitter-free and proud of it, but I am on Facebook. H just joined last weekend.

Not a 2013er but I thought I would advise those considering the linen packages to check out prior years' threads. Many posters in the past have not been happy with the price and/or quality. School-sponsored dorm supply packages
There's also a good thread stickied at the top of the cafe regarding shopping lists.

I am keeping an eye on the JMU waitlist for two of S2's friends, but that forum appears to be pretty defunct. Historically they have taken around 1/3 of their waitlist--several hundred kids--so I think S's friends should have a good shot. Not sure on the timing though. Is anybody here waiting on a JMU waitlist call?
