Great news for all the progress on the CA. S finished the main one a while ago. He's still working on supplements. We're in transcript/LOR purgatory right now. Waiting on the school's schedule of when they actually send them out, which I'm hoping is tomorrow. It's such a tease to keep getting reminders from schools on what's still missing and being told to send them in. Send those to the school!!! :P

He did "try" to sumit the application to his ED school only to find it won't be actually be submitted until both me and the counselor electronically sign off on the ED agreement. I'm so happy I didn't let him wait until the last minute with that one. And I'm glad that he's seeing all the little hiccups that happen when you think it's just a matter of clicking on a button. Hopefully we avoided another possible monkey wrench.

Just FYI for those of you with more kids to get through the application process... CMU Admission Director said that as of next year there will no longer be a place to attach an activities list.

And next year the essays will be cut off at the word limit. I also read that the CA essay option of write about anything of your choice will no longer be an option.

I am so, so frustrated with CA! I emailed them yesterday since there is no way to CALL them. I received a generated response that really didn't answer my questions. I will forward the email on to her LOR writers in hopes they can follow the directions to get the letters submitted. I'm also calling CMU about the issue. One of the LOR isn't that important, but the other one is extremely important that it be submitted!

UGA: I also had problems with CA and CMU. It took a phone call to CMU to get it all straightened up. Don't hesitate to call, they were very helpful!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Reeinaz-thanks for headsup on ED extra time. Goal for SCEA is to finish by end of next week so we aren't stressed. DD did the bulk of the supplement and now she has to finish the supplement essay.

We just finished 3 of 4 college events over the last week. Wednesday we went to a wonderful informational session for Yale. It was one of the best I have attended and DD made decision she wants to do SCEA.

On Friday, we went to a college reception with 7 of the 8 ivy leagues along with many other top tier schools. She enjoyed talking to the various admission directors and ruled a few schools off her list.

Today, we went to a multicultural event with HYPS. It was good because she didn't change mind on school to apply SCEA.

Tomorrow she has one more event and then just start working on supplements.

She has narrowed her list down from 15 to 10!!!

Have a great week everyone!

reeinaz, that's great that he is ready to submit early! I wish they'd make some of these things clearer on the Common App and not wait until you are already near the end, or at the end and ready to submit!

I hope everyone gets all the CA issues sorted out this week. I'm nervous about everything getting in as well. D has some 11/1 deadlines and no LORs are in the system. She's asked several teachers but none have submitted and I don't think they understand the school's new online system via naviance. I'm hoping that she follows up with teachers this week so that everything gets in on time!

I would love for DS to hit the submit button tonight!

Can you give me examples of what have your kids been putting in the "additional information" section?
I have been reading for the past couple of hours and the consensus on CC seems to be that they should not be overloading that section with info. DS says the same thing based on several conversation with college counselors - too much info is not going to paint a different picture, concentrate on essays. His supplemental essay for UNC is finished, the short one for CA as well, he is putting finishing touches on the main one...

LOR as well as school report are in the system, college transcripts were sent the same day DS ordered them, he also paid registration fees about a week ago to all his early schools...

... And D didn't put anything in 'additional info'. I don't think the expect you to unless there is something needing further explanation.

Addition Information

If you can't fit all of the activities and awards in the normal section, you can add it under additional info. Also sometimes there's not enough room for all the tests. DS added an abstract from a scientific poster he presented. Other DS put a full list of books he has read because he ran out of room on the supplement that asked for a list and there was no other place to put it.

Thank you everyone for all of the kind words! I deffffffinitely wrote about my experience in my Emerson supplements and am planning on putting it in my Barnard one too! I'm currently looking up all of the colleges on my list to see if I'm able to send any supplemental materials. I don't even care if they never look at them, just the chance of having a better chance at getting into some colleges due to what I've done would be really great.

Tonight I sent off my apps to Emerson, Quinnipiac, and Marymount Manhattan. I sent in the application portion of my Barnard app, and just have to send in the supplement and the fee waiver! I can't believe it!

I've decided to take UVa off my list because while I'd receive a really good finaid package if I were to get in, it's just not in the ideal location for me.

That shrinks my list down to 9 schools. Crazzzaaay!

That means I've applied to: local state univ. (and should hear back very, very soon), Marymount Manhattan, Quinnipiac, Fordham, and Emerson.

I have to finish applying to Barnard.

Then my RD schools are NYU, UConn, and Skidmore.

I can't believe it! The application process is almost over! Tomorrow night my dad and I are filling out the CSS profile and then we're basically done for now!

Hi everyone!! Congrats to those who have FINISHED their applications. That must be a fabulous feeling!!!!

D returned from her highest of all the HMFRs on her list (and like 6 of them are HMFRs) overnight trip and she loved it probably a bit too much ... LOL! She's practical about the miniscule chances she will be accepted, but she and her BF both really liked what they saw at the school (no real surprise there). BONUS: They got fee waivers! SO, she'll probably be adding another school to her list ... let's see.

ANYWAY ... She's working on the final details of an EA app due tomorrow and we have an URGENT QUESTION. There is an error on her transcript they have been trying to fix for several months now. It's the only B on her transcript and it was supposed to be an A. For the rolling admission schools it didn't make a difference as her unweighted GPA is a 3.97 with a district weighted GPA over a 5.3. BUT for this school, it could make a greater difference in her recalculated, weighted institutional GPA. We have been assured by the teacher and counselor it will be taken care of this week, but we're both concerned whether we should list the currently listed grade or what will show on the final transcript. If she puts the lower grade now, could it prevent her from being selected for the highly competitive scholarship program? If the grade is finally corrected (holding my breath), will the discrepancy between what we write now and what is shown on her final transcript going to cause them to rescind her offer of admission?? We are SOOOO worried!!! Any suggestions???

Doesn't the school transcript have to be submitted now? What do you mean when you write "what we write now"?
