kelijake: The CSS is not that bad. Just do the worksheet before starting and give yourself at least an hour.

S came home to a visit to the counselor very confused. Apparently, from what I gather, he was requesting a paper counselor rec, she said that she had already emailed it to the school (after she had told him earlier that she would only do paper recs). BUT, he still needs the school to send a transcript by snail mail. He THINKS counselor is still going to send it - but can't be sure. So....I guess we wait a week or two and see if it shows up at the college. Fortunately, this is one with a January deadline.

I just wish these counselors could be consistent. Either all electronic recs or all paper recs. Don't confuse the issue.

D received her first acceptance to the Honors College and a nice scholarship at our state school, and now she asks if she can be "done" with any further applications. (Um, no.)

I thought she would be motivated after the first acceptance to get everything else done...silly me.

our2girls--yes she picked the least expensive option and no, nothing from F yet. I thought it would be here today but they said they mailed the info Friday I think. Got school A's stuff today that was mailed Friday so maybe tomorrow. F was out of the running because they just took too long.

Dh is in deep do-do tonight--forgot to tell me he didn't need a ride home from work. NOT happy....

CSS Profile Questions Part I . . .

1) I'm assuming the mortgage payment should not include any escrow payment for taxes/insurance?
2) I'm really confused about Part PF115A for 2013 earnings . . . it asks for untaxed income/benefits like Flexible Spending and 401K contributions, but since I'm listing income (and not agi), those dollars will be counted twice as income. Or should I be listing agi for income for each parent?
3) Medical expenses - do you include insurance premiums?

TIA for any help!

My principal nominated me for a scholarship a couple weeks ago, and I was just notified that I'm a CT finalist! It's $1,000 for one year, but hey, that's fine with me!

In other news: I'm fed up with my local state univ. They're a rolling school and I submitted my app about a month ago. I sat with my guidance counselor three weeks ago and electronically sent them my transcript, yet I received an email today telling me that they still haven't received it! I'm calling the school in the morning with my guidance counselor to resolve the issue. It's so annoying! It's one of my safeties and I know I'm going to get in, but I'd just really like an acceptance from them already!

I didn't know where else to complain other than here! Sorry!

Found answers to #1 and #3 in FAQ - don't include taxes/insurance and do included medical/dental insurance premiums. I was going to ask about Roth IRAs, but I see they are to be included in tax-deferred retirement plans. Why call it tax-deferred - confusing! Stuck on #2!

swizzle13--story of my life this fall . It's very frustrating. DD had to so the same thing with one school and the GC actually had to chew out the Ad Comm a bit for being such a dingbat .

Congrats swizzle and ezilyamuzed! Love it when they show love with $$$!

tx5 . . . I'm on 3 hours already! The medical stuff will take me forever, but at least I'll be ready to do my taxes!

Ha ha - I get emotional too!
Proud of our D - she grudgingly worked on an outside scholarship app and it was really good!! Submitted long before the deadline - yeah! She even asked about another one. I'm happy she's trying to do what she can to help the bottom line. And now I'm getting teary eyed - lol

Congratulations to everybody!!! What great news and great kids!

As far as getting teary - I literally choked up when I was taking my kids pictures before they all took off for their Halloween nights, realizing that it was the last time DS would be in our annual Halloween picture.

Kelijake- Congrats on the Alabama acceptance. I am looking forward to hearing about your visit there.

Scholarships- Can anyone point me to a good website or book about outside scholarships? are we too late to start looking now?
