Good morning!
D worked on her portfolio for an interview in three weeks...after deciding what she wanted to include, and deciding how to put together her presentation, she went to get supplies. She started the process and I think she finally believes my H an me that it will take twice as long as she thinks it will take for the finished product. At least she has almost three weeks to work on it. Steady wins the race in this case

So - Paul McCartney put on a PHENOMENAL show last night in STL! About 35 or do songs, Beatles and Wings, 2 hours and 40 minutes. So happy our family went!

AND!! Lol - I know there are a lot of 'Bama fans here, but my Kansas State Wildcats are #1 in the BCS poll! Coach Snyder is a great coach - so happy because they are finally getting some more respect...hope I didn't jinx us, but too excited not to say anything. Okay - thanks for letting me stray from our typical posts a bit

Me, too, ree. And we didn't get any mail Saturday either. Shocking, as it's been months since ds hasn't had at least two pieces of college mail a day.

Ds is off school today, and we're having fun. Getting ready to have Whataburger! Homework is done so now just some more college apps. He did submit his scholarship app to the safety school last night. Yippee!

We had barely any mail here Saturday also. One college postcard and a shutterfly mailing. I wonder if it's after effects of Sandy?

Admiring from afar all of the acceptances for the 2013ers. My D has one EA and one ED in (nick of time following Hurricane Sandy) and now we wait till mid Dec. Her counselor is pushing her and classmates to get RDs done in case early admissions do not work out, but what 17 year old is going to put in effort on the dreaded college apps when there is a chance they won't have to do them at all?!! Hard to get her motivated for that one.

Submitted the CSS/Profile today. Almost ready to hit Submit on the ED application. It is really becoming "real" to me now! Just have to wrangle S into polishing off a few written answers on the CA.

I don't know of any scholarships available aat his ED school, and he is not NM range, so I am not anticipating any exciting letters in the mail

Waiting for Fed Ex to drop off DD's National Letter of Intent. The coach said they Fed Ex it out to our house but the AD at her high schools said they will probably fax something--we will see. DD is checking at school to see if they have it yet. Other than that, nothing new on the app front here.

DS was nominated for an academic/athletic scholarship that is due in one week. Yay, more essays and LORs - good thing it is for money - hopefully he will be self-motivated! He submitted two more apps this week (I think they are rolling - but I am so confused anymore that I am not even sure). HMFR still needs to be done and then all those "maybe" schools that he hasn't made up his mind about. I think I am an eternal optimist, each day I wake up with the feeling that something exciting is going to happen.

Erlanger, ds is the opposite. I asked him if he gets into his EA school if he would drop apps to the other schools in the area, and he said no. argh. I was trying to save him trouble and me money.

We've had a great day today. Some work, lots of goofing off.

D had last college visit and interview today. She also sat in and participated in a class. She felt great about the interview and the interviewer seemed to have already read her application. She was told by an admissions person that the interview is important unlike what her friends told her. So, I hope her assessment of the interview matches that of the interviewer! Now it is waiting, lots of waiting.

SteveMa-you are in perpetual motion with your kids. No dust collecting around your house. Congrats!

Congrats for all the good news, progress and completed apps. The first couple of weeks it was a relief to be done with apps. Now I am a little nervous about the eventual outcome.

Thanks everyone for the support. Congrats everyone else receiving acceptances and finishing apps!

What do you think about this essay prompt? I have an essay already written that describes sort of how I got involved in the "community" of one specific EC that I could easily tweak to fit, but what constitutes "achievements" and "recognitions"? I mean, I wouldn't list any awards or anything but do you think it's ok to expound on things I've done, which describe me and highlight some character traits, even though they're sort of "achievements"? I feel like I'm over thinking this....

"Describe yourself without citing academic, athletic, or community achievements, or other outside recognitions."

Posting in the middle of the night. I realized I forgot to check S3's ACT score before going to bed. Just checked and his horrifying english score went up 4 points, and his composite went up 2! Super score is same as the single test score. He was done no matter what, but we are thrilled with the result.

napalm--my best guess is this is similar to one of the prompts for a short essay I've seen to describe yourself in one word. I think they're looking for who you are as a person outside of academic achievements. Think adjectives that describe something about your personality.

And in the twiddling thumbs mode, I've decided to try to convince myself not to even look for anything before mid-December (even though I kinda am expecting to hear from at least ONE school before then). Arrghhh. . . (and fist bump to the no-mail days, although that also means no work for me)
