mommaof5 - A couple things I remember reading about for a telephone interview is to have your child stand when talking...can't remember why, but it was important enough for me to remember. The other was for skype, as I recall: make sure the background is not distracting for the interviewer...but that could also work for a telephone interview, in that make sure your child is not distracted by anything while on the call. No texting, no computer, no tv, etc. No one else in the room/area/nearby? There may even be a thread on this. Good luck to son!

Ezily - congrats to your D!

My daughter has submitted 2 EAs and 1 Rolling. 1 acceptance at Montana State rolling with small scholarship.

2 Cal State apps next week.
I think she has given up on her reach RD and it probably will not happen because she has to create a 5 min film for the application. It just took her 4 weeks to make a 30 sec commercial for her high school film class and she just does not want to put in the effort. Which means she will probably end up at a CSU or her rolling safety acceptance.

^ Huge Mother F-ing Reach

I have 6 apps in right now, 2 rolling acceptances, and mid December on the other 4. Depending on EA I'll apply to a maximum of 9 more, but realistically it'll probably be about 5 more. The 2 acceptances were practically guaranteed admits, 2 of the EAs are low match, and 2 are HMFR. Most of my RDs will be HMFR as well. Plus the Chancellor's scholarship app, that thing is a behemoth.

Congrats on the UGA/other acceptances everyone!

I'm a little embarrassed to say DS sent in his 15th application this past Thursday. Found out his GC had sent transcripts/LORs to a school DS was thinking about but decided not to apply to, it was a common app school, deadline for EA happened to be the day he found out about the sent info, so he figured why not? (What excuses can I give for the large number? Mostly I think that this kid is not a superstar, and he really still has no idea about size of school, geographic location, . . . he's interested in.)

Only one admission so far from rolling school (Montana), and I've been consciously avoiding looking up "notify" dates. Same thing as SAT results--if I know when they're due out, I tend not to sleep much the night before (although I'm pretty sure he'll have a handful more decisions by 12/15).

Oh--and definite congrats to all of the acceptances. Really good news. I got that "ahhhh" feeling after that one admission but I'm being a little greedy--really hoping for a second soon so at least there's a decision to make. (Surely he'll get into more than one out of 15 schools? )

Ezilyamused, wonderful news! Congratulations!

I'm so impressed at all the progress made by all the '13 students, and happy to see so much success!

psblstnr & Ezilyamused - thanks for the good advice.

Ezilyamused - Congrats!

DS13 and DS16 both made final cuts last night for basketball. DS13 was more excited for his little brother than for himself. DS16 is REALLY going to miss him next year.

Congrats to all who have recently received acceptances, those who have made decisions, and for all those who have survived the process so far!

Status update:

DS has applied to three schools so far, all rolling.
Accepted to two so far, expect to hear from third any day now.
Applying to at least seven more between now and mid-Jan.

Of those, at least two are HMFRs, one is low reach, one is financial/academic safety, rest are matches.

Ezilyamused--is that per YEAR??? WOW!!!!!!

DD ended up not going to that concert/college. The concert was last night and she couldn't go last night anyway. I guess she was just thinking about going and never even contacted her friend, and the other thing we forgot is that they are all coming home on Tuesday so she can visit them next week at home. We did talk about remorse and she was ok with that. She knows she can't go there and I think has resigned herself to that.

DD's dr appointment went ok yesterday. She wants DD to see one more dr to try some non-surgical treatments but still thinks DD will need surgery. We are ok with putting that off until after the first of the year. If DD has surgery she will have to drop her college class, which she HATES anyway so she was ok with that.

Thanks for the CSS help everyone. Since they wanted estimates, I just guessed for the summer income on min wage at 20 hrs wk for 1/2 the summer. It really will depend on what school she ultimately attends.

D has started waterpolo conditioning and the busiest season for math competitions starts right after the holidays. Like many of you have stated, it's bittersweet. :/

So here's the update re: D's apps ...
Applied:
3 rolling (3 acceptances)
1 EA match (expected decision 12/15 & praying for scholarship selection)
3 HMFR (1 EA expected decision 12/15 & 2 RD)

In progress (working on supplemental apps):
7-8 more HMFRs ... My deadline for submission is 12/5 except for 1 school with an event near us on 12/9. That way she can tweak or amend her app if necessary.

Scholarships:
3 major ones done and a bunch of smaller ones. Working on a HMFR scholarship that would be life changing. (her classmate received it last year)

Congrats to all!!!!

SteveMa: LOL-no, that's over four years. I wish!!! It's still 1/2 tuition tho. Not too shabby.

So far D has submitted:

3 EA with 1 acceptance so far
1 rolling with acceptance to Honors College

6 to go, 3 due 12/1.

Whew! So much yet for her to do!

Dang, y'all were busy yesterday! I picked up a freelance project so haven't been on much for a couple of days, but it appears we're doing a roll call, so:

How many schools has your 13er applied to so far? Two

How many decisions have they received? One, a yes from the rolling admit, in-school safety. The EA reach he'll know in mid-December.

How many more schools are they planning to apply to? He wants to apply to seven more schools and has a couple of big scholarship apps to do as well. He's pretty much finished with the regular apps but not the scholarships. We've been sitting on apps awaiting a change in district policy to go unranked, which would help him, but I'm beginning to think that he should just submit.

Last night, the football team lost in the playoffs. Sad to know that I'm not going to get to see these kids every week on the field. I managed not to cry even though some of them were. Today, ds is at a competition that he feels confident his team can win. We'll know this afternoon. Wish him luck!

Hi all! I have been unable to read much due to SANDY (hurricane) but hopefully we are all back on some basic track. DD just took the makeup SAT II (couldnt take it two weeks ago due to cancellation from storm). She's not sure how well she did, but not sure we can do much about it now. She is so happy to be "done" with tests. She has a EA to get out this weekend and she wants to send everything else by next week. Her one question is how to put the tests she took just today on the CA---what if she bombed one? Can she apply without putting it down? Welcome to anyone new!!! (it's gonna take me several days to catch up on the posts...I think I am "really" back in the late 600's somewhere....

Sounds like a lot of people are in the home stretch!

D is all done with applications and is in another city this weekend for a Drum Corps audition camp. She has been talking about this incessantly for almost three years! Of course we haven't heard anything since she texted to confirm she got picked up at the airport yesterday evening. I'm anxious to hear how it is going but she is probably having the time of her life with a whole weekend living and breathing percussion! Luckily she didn't have much homework with the short week coming up (at least that's what she said).

S15 and I had rehearsal this morning for an inter-generational community band that will put on a benefit concert for a Christmas lighting ceremony at a local school. Our youngest player is in 7th grade and the oldest is over 75. So wonderful to see the mentoring that goes on and the energy and enthusiasm of the younger set! And playing in the same group with S is special
