Matmaven - Welcome and congrats to your son!
AP's - I've gotten the impression that schools generally ask students to self report the scores. DS ED school asked for scores of ones taken already, and then tests he expected to take in future.
I'm not sure if I will have the strength to wait until April if he doesn't succeed at "one and done." I have to admit that I also was excited about the ease of applying to one school and if it works out, that's it!! He almost feels like he's missing out a bit because of all the interviews his friends have been on!

Also, tonight I am NOT feeling warm and fuzzy and sad for him to leave... Had a big fight tonight. Apparently he was extremely frustrated that his physics teacher said he'd "get back to him" about a tricky problem and he never got back to him... But apparently I'm "no help" and I "don't even care." He actually tore a page out of his physics book, and I'm sure that when it comes time to pay for the damaged book, it will somehow be my fault...

my3gr8boyz - feeling for you...similar things happen here as well.
Our D was out of town this weekend for a school sponsored trip - I will pick up her and her bff about 2 am...I'll be happy to see her but not sure she will feel the same because somehow it will be my fault that she has so much to do before Thanksgiving |

Congratulations, Ree and mat (and everyone on previous pages).
S had his first interview today (with his ED school), which would have been a bigger deal if he'd told me beforehand. Instead, he set it up himself (giving me no opportunity to check for spelling mistakes in his email), walked to the coffee shop, chatted with some lady, came home and goofed off and THEN told me when I suggested he check his email for interview requests. I couldn't check his clothes (jeans and t-shirt), if he shaved, or offer helpful tips--I guess he knew what he was doing when he decided not to tell me!

MomofNEA - You should be very proud of a job well done. It sounds like your son is ready to handle going off to college on his own. Congratulations!

Thanks for the sensible words, ReallyPeople. I guess I just felt deprived of an opportunity to micromanage!! Plus I'm wondering how he became this person since only a month ago I was practically locking him in his room to get the dang essays done.

Ree - So happy for your son. Went to my HS reunion this weekend and spent a lot of time talking with an old friend whose D is a freshman at Albright. He has nothing but praise for it. His D had a medical issue come up (broken hand) and the school was great with helping to get accommodations ASAP.
DS finally completed Common App. 3 CA schools applied to this weekend. 4 to go. IMHO, one he completed this weekend had the most difficult Sup. Essay. Hoping the next 4 go faster.
DS is going to Gettysburg tomorrow and will hear Steven Spielberg give the keynote address. I'm sure going to see Lincoln will be on the agenda next weekend.

Congratulations to everyone that have acceptances in hand! It is very exciting...we are currently in "wait mode" with 7 applications out for EA - 2 low reaches, 5 safeties/high matches...even so, I had the nightmare last night where DD doesn't get in anywhere...ugh! DD is perfectly fine and very confident that she will have choices, I am very anxious on the inside

Thanks for the well wishes. The acceptance came a few hours after the realization that it looks like S will get a D in calculus this first quarter. He's only 1.4 points away from a C but has 2 zeroes from the 1st two assignments of the year. You can imagine what that conversation went like. I think of few of you know exactly how that conversation went...lol. I suggested that he have a talk with his teacher to see if there is anything he can do at this point to get a C. He seemed very reluctant to do so. Oh well.
But yeah, it 's great to have an acceptance in hand and even better since Albright has pleadged to meet 100% of need starting with next year's freshman class. It's a much more viable option now than when it went on the list. It really is one of my favorites for him. I hope he gets excited about it now that he's been accepted. Longhaul, what really grabbed me about the school was they have a mandatory academic support program for kids who find themselves on academic probation. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst |

My3grtboyz - I totally am with you on not having the fuzzies! My d was gone all weekend and last night she was a pill!!!! She wasn't feeling well but she was freaking out about her iphone acting up - and I mean FREAKING out!!! I told my dh that she may need therapy!!! She was exhausted and I told her that she should just go to bed and figure it out in the morning when she was rested - of course I was wrong in her mind! But this morning everything was clear Gotta love stress!

Reeinaz - Congrats on Albright and right there with you regarding first quarter grades and kids not doing homework.
DS has 9 applications submitted. Two acceptances - one with merit, Alabama. He visited Alabama with his Dad and didn't love the school but said he could see himself there. However, he hated the aspergers support program which is the big reason I was ok with him going so far away. We still have some honors college apps and scholarship apps. Each app that should take 2 or 3 hours at most seems to take 15 - 20 hrs. He has no clear first choice, only one reach we will have to wait until April to find out. I feel like we are missing that "one" school.

I didn't want to post this in the athlete forum since my son isn't being recruited. But Friday, he got an email from a coach at one of his EA schools that he applied to 11/1.
Congratulations on your application to xxxxx College. I hope you seriously consider xxxxx as an avenue to your future. I am confident that you will enjoy the diversity/intimacy of our entire campus community. On your application, you expressed an interest in cross country/track and field. As a coach of these programs, I am always looking for student athletes with a passion to run, yet an equal passion for their academic pursuits. Competing at the collegiate level is an awesome experience. We have great kids in our program, and also the highest grade point averages of any of our collegiate teams. The range of talent in our programs is from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some athletes strive for conference championships, while others enjoy the team camaraderie. If you are interested in competing at the collegiate level, please respond to my email, and I will send you more specific information about our programs. I look forward to hearing from you.
I know I'm being crazy and reading too much into this, but his use of the word "will" and not "would" makes this stand out from most other college communications that I can recall. And that he's saying he hopes my son seriously considers the school. duh!!! He applied. Of course he's considering it. Please help. It's just a form letter that doesn't mean much of anything, right?

reeinaz--it's a form letter of sorts but coaches do want kids to try out. Sports like Cross Country, as you know, are excellent because they give a large number of kids the opportunity to compete and be on the team. If the school is D3, many of them have JV programs as well as varsity. They also know that boys develop at different rates and if his times are reasonable now, there may be room for improvement. I would STRONGLY recommend that he try CC at least freshman year. It gets him on campus early, usually a week or 2 before the other kids move in, lets him get to know 20-50 current students of all grades that can be wonderful resources for him. Also, in our experience, the CC kids tend to have the highest GPA's on campus (as a team) and know how to work hard so there is help there as needed for studying, etc. You also don't really have to miss any school since most meets are on Saturday. DH ran CC in high school and college so we have spent a lot of time around the sport and continue to go to local meets as well as college meets, including CC regional and national meets which are a blast to attend.

SteveMA - Thanks for the response. Neither one of us even though about him running on a team. He was just looking at running as part of a running club in college. But I didn't think of the benefits you mentioned if he were to try out and make a team. I think I'll have him explore that for the colleges he does get accepted to.

reeinaz-almost our entire wedding party was composed of Cross Country and Track friends from college. We are still best of friends with most of these people all these years later. What are his times in CC now?
