TGIF iPeeps! We survived the week! I'm starting early with the margaritas (or in IL's case, the martinis ). Lifting a toast to alicew on the last tuition check!
scualum: has your S ever visited The Points Guy blog? Frankly, your S sounds every bit as savvy as The Points Guy in his pursuit of airline miles. I bow before your S.
momof2inmas: the peepers are out?! Hooray! Spring has definately arrived. Time to dust off the bicycle & ride the trails to hear the peepers!
tx5: break a leg to S3!
S2 heads back tomorrow. It has been a short but nice break with him home. We began major construction this week & he removed almost 4,000 lbs of debris for the contractor. We call this project "Habitat for Home," which is similar to IL's S1's "Habitat for Hilton Head." I know he would prefer to be skiing in CO with friends, but after last year's dislocated shoulder, I refused to "facilitate" a trip with a plane ticket. So S2 went mountain biking with a friend instead. He came home bruised & bleeding but happy after doing a couple of "headers" over the handlebars. His friend didn't fare quite as well: the friend broke off his saddle & had to ride home standing over an exposed frame . Oh to be 20 years old again & haul debris, ride a mountain bike, lift weights in the gym, THEN still have energy for a date in the evening .....

Raising my virtual margarita.......raspberry please.
Taking ES12 to get a prom dress tomorrow. She is a TERRIBLE shopper so I am already stressed. I told her this was the last weekend we had, so she HAS to pick one out tomorrow. We looked a couple weeks ago but she was uninterested. She doesn't want to spend much money but doesn't like the cheaper ones. She can definitely afford whatever she chooses. I've never seen anyone so indecisive. She may go back to the same store 3 or 4 times in the same day. Wish me luck. Perhaps pray.
D15 starts golf next week. Cheer tryouts start Monday too.
S called last night. This semester is going well and he is enjoying the classes. So much different than last year.
Everyone have a great weekend !

glad you and your S are enjoying the show tx5!
I missed the "work for a friend" comments earlier. I have never directly reported to a good friend and have made it clear that I would prefer not to when I have been in larger groups I have been able to report to someone else even if the friend's group was the more obvious place in the reporting structure. I would consider it but would really prefer not to. In your case Laf if you like the project and feel your friend would be a good manager, I would give it a try.
Enjoy your time those who are getting their kids home for break. Won't see D until June or possibly May if she gets boated for a race in Philly.
We picked a different boy name for D2 than we had for D1.
momof2- sorry the housing is not working out! Is she going to look for something off campus?
and for those with HS seniors, good luck surviving the final weeks before all decisions are out! D2 should get official word from her last school next week, and we have two more revisits. She might be one of these 11th hour deciders, we shall see. |

Saving us from falling to page two.
Cold and rainy here. We've been spoiled by the mild winter, but we sure need the rain. Just wish it wasn't so windy and cold. Not a great start to spring break.
Congrats on the sold-out show, tx.
I've never reported directly to someone who was a friend first. I can think of some friends with whom it wouldn't be a problem. But some -- yeah, it wouldn't work out.
I am soooo excited for ds1 to come home Tuesday. And Thursday is ds2's 17th birthday. Oh, and my father is doing MUCH better. It's still difficult dealing with all the emotions and drama surrounding the situation -- my mom's, my sister's, my brother's. I'm kind of glad to be just far enough away that I'm able to set the boundary that I'm not going to rush home and "solve" everything. But some days, it's a challenge.
alice, I need to get that check in the mail, too! But I always call the FA office first because ds's work-study next term means the amount we owe will change. I'd rather make the closest guesstimate now and send a lower amount than send a larger amount and get a refund.

Quick drive by. Boss is getting ready to go on vacation so he has been keeping me very busy these past few days. I will have to put in some extra time next week, but we will both be off next Friday so I have a feeling there is going to be a party at my work then.
Welcome runnersmom!
Tx4: Glad the play is a hit!!
Momof2: Don't know what the "peepers" are, but I'm sure GSharp will have some sort of answer!
12rmh18: I think I will join you with the margarita!
Have a great night!

I'll take one of those margaritas. It's Friday and the start of Spring Break!!
12rmh - Glad S2 is getting through spring break without any breaks. My S1 just left with two buddies to go mountain biking.
NC State will be playing UNC in the semifinals of the ACC tournament. It's going to be wild at my house tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind welcome! Weather here feels more like early fall than late winter, after an absolutely perfect late spring day yesterday. I stare at the coat rack in our back hall and inevitably make the wrong decision these days! I am really looking forward to the weekend though. I started a couple of projects that have stalled - seriously - and I've informed DH that he will be in charge of making sure that they get finished. Nothing I hate worse than "I told you so," so completion will be accomplished!

Speaking of baby names...my Dad is one of ten children. They picked out a boys name and a girls name for each child and then retired the name of the other gender after the baby was born. For instance, my Dad's "girl name" was Victoria but they did not use that name when they later had a girl. I think it's kind of weird and kind of neat at the same time.
It's a bit chilly and rainy here and I love it! I'm just a four seasons kind of gal living in an all-summer, all-the-time climate.

Just stopping by to say hello, and happy Friday.
YDS - glad to hear that your father is doing better. I'm jealous that your S1 is coming home on Tuesday. I will not see mine till the following Monday. He is heading south with the ultimate frisbee team after exams for a tournament, and won't head home till it's over. Then he'll only be here five days, and none of them is a weekend day. Boo.
No real baby name stories here. Just glad my mom did not name me Gwendolyn, which was her mother's choice for me.

Twinmama - have a great time in SC with your parents and your daughters! Sounds awesome. Where will you be in SC?
Momof2inMA, that stinks about the housing lottery. It seems so unfair. You said they only missed a suite by 2 - can they waitlist for one? I wanted D to stay on campus all 4 years, but moving off-campus does mean avoiding the whims of the lottery and taking control of her housing fate into her own hands.
Thanks for the job opinions. I'm still deciding what to do. I have a lot of time... I don't think the job is posted yet, and the current job holder isn't leaving till the end of August (my friend was really happy that she gave her this much advance notice though, because this is a key position and will require a lot of training for the person who takes it over).

In college news.....S called again this afternoon. He registers for next fall classes on Monday!
He's still playing around with summer internships or jobs. I think whatever the girlfriend is doing or where she's going to be play a part in this. I think I need to remind him that where ever he is.......there will be a job involved. Hope he doesn't think he's going to hang out all summer with a one day a week lab position. Perhaps he should take summer courses.
