mdem, P56, and all others in horrific summer heat, come out east! It's gorgeous this week: 56 in the morning, 86 at its peak, which quickly cools to a really comfortable 80 degrees. So nice to say that finally. Last week, my thermometer clocked its highest at 105. That's nasty as is, but made so much worse when it's humid too. This week, the forecasters are saying we'll have more of the 60-80 degree weather. Woohoo!
Congratulations mdem on your A for the semester, so far.
mommusic, love your story about friend's son and his college experience. It's funny, but I sure hope he pulls it together.
psychmom, just keep a tight rein on your son especially that first semester. Guys need a lot of help to get organized, and signing up for classes can be just the beginning. By contrast, there's Lafalum's DD who has already started to decorate her apartment.
BB2 is loving his internship, although the commute is a bear. He especially likes the monetary rewards. When DH saw his paycheck, he pretended he was going to start charging rent. BB2 panicked, but I just couldn't go along. There was a feeeewwww! from the other room.
BB1 is settling into his new "job". Still hasn't gotten paid yet though, so he's not so sure if it's an actual job, an unpaid internship, or volunteer.

So S2 went from no jobs to 3 jobs. He started out volunteering at the high school tennis camp, and then they started paying him. Two more days of that. Then he volunteered at the tennis camp for little kids at the club and they hired him for the camp and to work in the clubhouse. And he applied at the Nikerunning store at the mall, interviewed last week, and just got a call that he got that job. I think both the job at the club and the Nike job are part-time, so it should work out. So evidently I was worried for nothing.
Mdem: Woo hoo for the A!!

Mdem: Congrats on the A.
Laf: Sorry to hear about the computer troubles.
psychmomma: Hoping that you get to spend a little more time with your D.
GSharp: sounds like you had a nice weekend with your girls!
Checkers: Happy Belated Birthday to your H!
Footballmom: How's the new job?
Not much going on here. Work is crazy, vacation is nice but going back to double work is not!
S2 is still working everyday but is hoping that he won't have any hours on Saturday and then can take the train home Friday night and back on Saturday night. He just wants to sleep one night in an air conditioned room!

Hi to the iPeeps from soggy olde England, where they are having the wettest summer since 1912. We decamped from the Sweatbox to the Wetbox. London was crazy crowded with tourists - I can't even imagine what it will be like in 2 weeks during the Olympics. The Brits went into national mourning over Murray's loss to Federer at Wimbledon. I am currently in Cambridge, learning about the 32 colleges that comprise The University. It is very different from our college system. Also much older. (Can you say 1209, when the first students arrived?)
Back to catch up on this thread.

And smoothies for the rest of us! I needed to vacuum this morning, but first I made one of my fruity smoothies and it cheered me up immediately.
So for those who don't care for coffee, the blender is full! This one had a LOT of fruit--frozen banana & peach, plus fresh watermelon, pineapple, kiwi, a little carrot juice, some mint leaves, and almond milk. YUM!

Cheerio 12rmh18! D knows 2 college friends who will be interning at the Olympics. Both have parents in the broadcast biz. And her BF's friend-since-childhood's roommate (got that? ) will be competing on the USA Track team.

I admit I am doing the two window thing, since I was gathering up my replies in my head and have already forgotten what I was going to reply to Laf about the utilities.. I am pretty much starting from when G# talked about linux and eclipse, things I do know about!
fbmom- D says she is teaching herself German this summer, she is using a few websites. Any suggestions from you or others welcome. If S wants a place to ship his textbooks, I could tell him where!!
psychmomma- no lie, I was glad when the grad party was over. Glad yours went well!
DB- glad the drive went well for S! Sorry about the bedding. I am the main packer for D2's college stuff as she has limited time at home before leaving. She builds the dorm mountain, I pack it. I predict it will be less than D1 brought.
tx5- sorry about the paycut. I heard on the radio this morning that some bankrupt city has put all its workers on minimum wage. They interviewed one guy who works for the highway dept going from ~$19/hr to $7.xx. Doubt it will hold, but wow!
p56- pointing PVC at S1 for Thurs. But we also need a few shots at D2 who will be registering for classes. I am nervous because she is doing it at camp on the staff computer during a break, and I am not there. This is tough for me.
mdem (who I now think of as flem, which at least isn't phlegm, so sorry maybe I'll be more tactful when I have had more coffee, see what happens when I do the two windows) congrats on the A!!
waving to 12rmh!
caught up, think I'll slip back into my hole for a few more days

tx5athome, I'm impressed that your son found paying work this late in the summer! Good for him. Even though I think some organizations take advantage of volunteers I've had other experiences where if a volunteer does a good enough job, everyone starts feeling guilty and finds a way to pay them. My older son spent a week job shadowing in my older brother's office his sophomore year in high school. I made it perfectly clear that we just wanted him to have a chance to see how an office devoted to computer programming type work looked. He was helpful, and even pointed out a mistake that someone doing a presentation about Adobe Photoshop - they ended up giving him a gift certificate at Amazon.
Stinks about the paycut - hope it's only temporary. I guess it's still better than being laid off all together.
S2 seems to be fine, though he looked hot and tired when we last spoke to him. I think he's learning that shift work has definite disadvantages! But he's really enjoying making real money and being out on his own.
lilmom, I'm one step ahead of you. The bad of stuff is in my car, now I just have to actually drop it off. Oh, actually I have to get a new bag, since I use the bag it was in to wrap up a painting I picked up from an art show.

12rmh18 - enjoy your trip! Can't wait ton hear your travel report. It's been years since we traveled to London. I wanted to be there this summer for the Olympics but DH was not too keen about spending the $$!

Twinmama - my biological clock stopped at 29. It took lil D a few years to figure that out.
You're only as young as you feel!

lilmom - I had hoped we could go to London this summer as it's been 10 years since we were there. With two in college this fall I didn't feel like we could spend that kind of money for the 4 of us. Maybe once D1 is out of college we can all go!
D2 got her wisdom teeth out today and was pretty miserable earlier. She has been using the ice packs a lot today so hopefully will not look too much like a chipmunk tomorrow!
