Morning, all.

DS1 is coming over for dinner tonight. I told him he needs to bring a dessert!

Ds2 comes home from camp tomorrow, and we'll all be going out to lunch when he lands. Today is the competition portion of the camp. I'll be curious to hear how he does. He's quite competitive and likes to win!

Munequita, how exciting to get to see your dd!!! ♥

Yay for Munequita's exciting reunion trip - it will be so fun!

Beautiful weather here. Told D I'd buy her a cute new dress for the wedding we're attending next weekend (it really is both appropriate and adorable and was only $41 online from Lulu's) and now of course we have to buy jewelry to go with it Heading out to CHARMING CHARLIE. Bought myself a dress last weekend, it has some beading/pearls on the neckline that just happens to match D's prom earrings, so I'm borrowing her jewelry. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Plans for her off-campus apartment furnishings seem to be coming together, and her BF is out hunting for his first "real" apartment today. S is back at IKEA buying a desk and living room chair for his apartment... such an exciting time in their young lives, but I'm really happy here in my permanent house! It was fun to be starting out, but I don't feel the need to repeat it.

Good afternoon!

It is S3's 17th birthday today. It is a beautiful day here. He is off to the beach with friends and we are having his friends over tonight. Should be interesting. He invited, among others. his Prom date, his Winter Formal date, his Homecoming date and last year's Winter Formal date.

Have a great weekend!

Laf....I love Charming Charlies!

All of us....me,H,S & D went to Schlitterbahn yesterday. It was fun and a great way to beat the heat. All week is expected to be over 100. wednesday is suppose to be 109.

D15 and I went to Des Moines today back to school shopping. She found some cute stuff. I think she's ready. Her first day back is Aug 22.

Ordered S10 college books this week. He moves back 2 weeks from today. I can't believe its time. I really like having him home. He misses his college town though. It does have SO much more to offer than here.

Glad our Colorado peeps are ok.

P56: How is your s feeling ? Heeling well, I hope.

Did I mention how much I like this 3 day weekend thing ?! only one more left.......

Hello, I am new to this forum I have a daughter looking at schools now . She graduates in 2014 heading off to college. I would really appreciate any advice from this forum on the process and preparation for college. I work In the high tech field and am struggling with how to proceed with this new challenge.

Tx5: Happy Belated Birthday to your S!

Checkers: Can't believe your S goes back in 2 weeks. S2 won't be back from his campus job until August 12th and reports back for school September 8th.

P56: Hoping that your son is back home and resting comfortably.

Laf: Lots of shopping going on in your family.

Munequita: Countdown is on for your trip!!

12rmh18: Have a safe flight back home!

Getting ready to go to a belated HS graduation party for my nephew. I'll be happy to see him but more excited to spend some time in the pool with my little niece and nephew! From what I hear my nephew is talking like crazy so it should be lots of fun!

~~~waving to BuandBC and KS if she's lurking!
Good morning!
I had a great time at my SIL's baby shower yesterday. It's been a LONG time since we had a baby in the family and it was fun to see all the new gadgets and gizmos. She has a 10 year gap between kids so she and my bro are practically starting all over.
The countdown is on for D. She has 23 days till we take her to school. Most of the shopping is done. At least the shopping with MY money.
We are also in shopping mode for S and his apartment. H was looking at all kinds of stuff at WalMart and Target today. Most of what he pointed out, I told him we have extras that S can take without buying more. Hurray for overstocked kitchens.
Both may still get little microwaves and D needs a printer. Then I hope I'm done with the major outward money flow that is stressing me out. Oh - I forgot - that won't happen till after I make the tuition payments this week. Lol.
D is getting wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and refuses to be put to sleep so I'm worried about how she will handle the procedure. So far, she seems to be much better about getting dental work done than I am, but I was out for the wisdom teeth so don't know what that's like. H had his out without being put to sleep but he was 50 at the time.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
Dang, everybody gets to go to Europe, except us. The closest we get is “Busch Gardens – The Old Country.”
Colorado_mom – Glad to hear that your family seems unimpacted by the events in Aurora so far. I checked with my brother who lives near there and all is well. My nephew goes to movies at that theater sometimes, but decided to go to a birthday party for a friend’s mother instead of the Batman premier that night, whew!
Enjoy seeing your DD in Europe!
We have a couple of those words too…
Minky = Mean & Stinky (when someone purposefully does something really mean)
Wuppity = White & Uppity (it is a snarky, relative/context sensitive term that can refer to anyone from a rude 1%er to someone who will only go to the “good” Dairy Queen. )
Exhaustipated = Too tired to give a sh**.
YDS – Tell the truth, did you have a bag of Gummy Bears for dessert last night?
LAF – I should have sent D1 shopping with you this weekend. We received a pix from her yesterday of a pair of shoes with the message, “For my birthday, please?” Her birthday isn’t until freakin’ October! DW and the girls are constantly swapping jewelry, clothes, bags, etc. DW and D2 went shopping together last weekend and independently picked up the same shirt. DW threatened to take one of those awkward dressed alike pictures with her when we go on vacation.
Tx5 – Happy Birthday to S3! I like the potential “Cat Fight” party theme.
ProudNJMom – I’ll “see” you on Sept. 8th when we show up with “Mom’s Mountain Mobile.”
Psychmomma – I hope all goes well on Tuesday for your D. Here’s an idea, get her to make a You Tube video the procedure.
We will be hearing the same from D2 when she comes home from DC in a couple of weeks. There’s not much exciting where we live, but we managed to raise 2 girls of whom we are proud here.
Both D’s have always been really good about talking with DW about boys. Me, that’s another story. In fact, they have perfected that “look” that says “<G#>, you need to go back to your office so we can finish talking.” I tend to think that it is because they trust DW because she made such an excellent choice with her “catch.”
DW may have gladly traded with you when she got awakened this week by one of those midnight calls, where you immediately assume the worst, from D2. She was calling to say that “boy from school” took her on a picnic and gave her roses, but she didn’t have anything to put them in… what should she do? Yeah, that’s worth a midnight call to temporarily stop mama’s heart. I knew I should have insisted on an all-women’s college. Is it too late to make her transfer? With the exception of ProudNJMom’s upstanding citizen DS2, I still refuse to believe that there are boys at D2’s school.
But I don't feel left out. D1 called me… “The ‘Check Engine’ light is on, what do I do?”, ergh!
In college news, it is that time of year again… Check your mailboxes… D2’s local scholarship was renewed.
Good news - D is cleaning out her closet and now I have some super-cute black pumps that were *never* worn.
D let me log in to her college account this weekend to print off a copy of her transcript for her first two years. They have a thing called "degree tracker" that shows the requirements to graduate in your major (and minor if you have one), what you've fulfilled and what's left to take. D has accomplished quite a bit of it! She doesn't have a lot of courses left to take for her major, but she's only taken one of the 5 she needs for her minor (taking the 2nd one next semester). The degree tracker has a cool "what if" feature that allows you to change what your major is and see how the courses you've taken so far would fit into your requirements for graduation. It was all crystal clear and easy to follow. I was impressed.
