Psychmomma, I have found that hotel rates pretty much double near D's college for move-in weekend, family weekend, (and I'm assuming graduation). They charge what they can get, and they still sell out.

Good morning iPeeps! I made a 2nd pot of coffee in the French coffee press this morning. The beans are Brazil santos. One cup is strong enough to keep ALL of us off page 2!

Checkers: sending a Pepsi your way. Your energy & activities always astound me. Enjoy your D15's Homecoming & the scrapbooking conference!

Psychmomma: as others noted, colleges do raise their rates & minimums for significant weekends such as Family Weekend, Homecoming & graduation. For S1's graduation weekend, the hotels all had 3-night minimums. Ugh!

P56: Enjoy having all 3 boys home next weekend. Are you making any special meals?

YDS: hooray for a long Skype convo with your S1! His New Zealand adventures sound amazing. What a wonderful opportunity for him! I'm sure he is learning things above and beyond the classroom.

ML: what wonderful news about your DS gradually resuming his running. That's HUGE! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

We have big news in DC - and it doesn't involve politics or anything that would violate the TOS: Teddy Roosevelt FINALLY won the Presidents' Race after 526 races. (Apparently he had some help from an imposter Philly Phanatic. ) Oh, and the Nats aren't doing too shabby either. At least baseball love is bipartisan during this election season.

In COLLEGE news, S2 will be coming home for Fall Break next weekend. It always amazes me that some of our kids are just starting their term, while others are already midway through the semester. I'm waiting to hear if the House Dog is coming home with him. My 14-yr old Geriatric Dog may not take kindly to the new pup on the block.

G#: speaking of new pups on the block, congratulations on the new addition to your family!

Ah, it must be my lucky day - I get to ditto 12rmh18!

Had a good workout at the gym this morning, and am feeling pretty upbeat in spite of the rain and the awful traffic on the way in to work.

A week from tomorrow and I get to see my kids - they don't really have a fall break (though S does have that Monday off because it's the 5 week point of the 10 week term), but my niece is getting married and they're coming to the wedding.

Happy Thursday to all.

P56: Ummmm, honey lavender cream pie sounds yummy! And the name "crackhead" always "cracks" me up.

Agree with 12rmh -- with the roundup and crackhead and cream pie. I've never heard of honey lavendar.

Defs excited <---- channeling ds2 for Teddy Roosevelt winning! Not excited about my Rangers losing, but at least we get the O's at home and not on the road.

Ds1 starts his "fall" break tomorrow. I learned from creeping on his brother's FB page that ds1 watched the debate online. So proud. ♥

Having lunch with friends today, then Thursday Night Lights for a change. And this weekend a major cool front is coming in. Can't wait!

waving ~~~

Enjoy your fall breaks, peeps, D hasn't made it through first week of classes yet. But they are all "fine" She doesn't have a break (September was her break) and D2 is not coming home.

D1 has to submit a spring SA app and a summer SA app in the next couple months.

I'll take a piece of that pie p56! Doesn't sound appealing really, but I will eat blue ribbon food.

Agree with Jackie, I'm not sure that honey lavender cream pie would be my cup of tea. But I'm willing to try.
