lilmom - your gas is even higher than here in SoCal. H paid $4.39 yesterday at Costco.
Checkers - snow! It is 75 degrees and tomorrow I am trying stand up paddle boarding with a friend on the bay.
D sent me a picture of her playing the piano yesterday. It made me so happy that we could get it from SoCal to NYC!

HI All, I've been dropping by during the week but now it's time to play catch up! It's amazing how much goes on here in a few days!
Sending Congratulations to all on the interships and Happy Birthday wishes to all who celebrated this past week.
Checkers: I can't believe you mentioned the 4 letter S word already.
GSharp: Very cool that D2 called "Queen Noor"! If I get a call should I ask if her father is the one who likes to carry a pink suitcase around campus? I'll be going to the "orange" bubble tomorrow. S2 is working next weekend for parents weekend so I decided to go down tomorrow. He did tell me that it has to be a fast visit. He has a lot of homework, so it looks like I'll drop off his goodies, have brunch and then back home. A fast visit is better than no visit!
SCUALUM: Good luck to your D next week. It seems like there is always someone's kid getting their wisdom teeth out.
12rmh18: Yay for the great conversation with S2!
Aiming the PVC to all who need it and extra PVC to RobD's Husband!
~~waving at BUandBC and P56!!
Have a great weekend everyone. No holiday for me either on Monday. |

Good morning. Coffee and tea (and pepsi) are ready on the sideboard. Check out the maple scones.
I will be off to yoga and a manicure shortly - must be a "me" day. I am also looking forward to hearing from my children today, since they both seem to have adopted Sunday as their "call mom" day.
Have a good one, all.

Morning all! I have a chocolate chip banana bread almost ready to take out of the oven so we can add that to the maple scones.
D1 is leaving to go back in about an hour after her very fast fall break. I feel like I didn't get to see her very much at all. Oh well.
I was happy to "only" pay 3.56 for gas yesterday.
Enjoy your Sunday's everyone!

Good morning.
Cold and rainy sunday here. Heading to UMCP in a little bit so I can fetch D then deliver her to Gettysburg. Lots of car time today. Same for S, head back to Wake after a weekend at UMCP. Send your safe driving vibes, please.
Thanks for all the morning treats. I dropped one on the floor. Batman loved it. |

Thanks for the goodies. But when did we become the Pepsi Generation? I'm a Diet Coke girl.
Jealous of everyone who got to see their kids this weekend. Hope the driving goes well, DB.
There's a big party tonight for current and former employees at my old place of work, and I can't decide whether to go. Part of me would be happy to see so many old-timers and catch up, but part of me finds the whole concept too depressing. It's a goodbye party for the all the people who were just laid off from my old division, effectively shutting down that part of the operation for good. I can't believe my industry has come to this. . Actually, now that I think of it, it's more like a wake.

Good morning, everyone! Thanks for the goodies. My Gr. yogurt, raspberries, and walnut breakfast does get monotonous. Please indulge my post today; it is going to be long.
Thursday evening my health research study group had a program on stress, anxiety, and depression which couldn't have had better timing. I have mentioned before that my husband was hospitalized with A-fib a week after my brother's funeral. They put him on a drug that is supposed to regulate his heart but also has anxiety as a major side effect. Since stress/anxiety is what seems to cause his heart to jump around, it seems counterproductive to me, but then I am not a doctor. After two months on the med routine and a month after seeing the cardiologist, his heart is still out of rhythm. He called the cardiologist 10-14 days ago to ask if he has a follow-up appointment (he also has ADHD and they took him off his ritalin) and hasn't received a return call. Between the stress and my nagging him etc., he and I are clashing constantly which keeps his blood pressure high so I am trying to gently persuade. I knew that he was seeing his PCP so I just gave him a list of questions and hoped that his dr. would talk some sense into him. He didn't give me a complete report but he did say that the dr had prescribed Zoloft and is referring him to another cardiologist.
S was due to come home Friday after his exam with his 3 roommates who might or might not be staying here. At 3:30 he called to say that they were bringing 2 cars because our damaged car from last month's collision couldn't hold all of the weight. Seemed like good news/bad news. We didn't realize how bad the car was but at least his friend could bring them home if our car needed to be towed.
Two hours before the guys were due to arrive, one of the fluorescent bulbs in my kitchen ceiling fixture needed to be replaced, so H gets the ladder and tries to open the fixture. It appeared to be stuck so he tugged harder and the fixture pulled out of the ceiling and was dangling by the wires. He untangled one and got clippers to cut the other. I had visions of him electrocuting himself as S walks in the door (I obviously know nothing about wiring). He did get the wires cut successfully and other than a few holes in my ceiling and a few loose wires, it doesn't look too bad especially in dim light which it is since I now have no light in my kitchen. throughout this fiasco, I kept silent because a heart attack is much worse than a dark kitchen.
I retreated to my computer room and H went to Home Depot or ??? to look for a new
ceiling light. He found something and called the electrician to come fix it on the day that I was supposed to be taking the guys back to school although I more than likely won't need to make the trip since the other roommate brought his car.
S arrived home only an hour later than expected after getting caught in traffic. Two of the roommates went to Pitt to see the one roommates girlfriend. so only S and one rm here. That roommate had a lab to turn in before midnight, so he went to his room and S drove over to Pitt to pick up bag that was too heavy for the damaged car.
Now, the good part. After S came back and H and rm were in their rooms, S and I sat at the kitchen table and had a really nice talk. Although I don't have time this week to drive to his college and back, I was looking forward to car time. When there are others in the car, I just sit back and listen and get a little window of his current life. When it is just the two of us, we talk. S is not a telephone talker but in person, he will talk a lot.
Saturday, H headed north to our non-working farm to arrange work on one of the tenant's houses. He will drive back 2 hours today to watch the Steeler game with friends and then hopefully take the guys/friends out for a nice dinner before heading back to the farm. S told him that he wanted to have his first legal drink with his father since he turned 21 after school started. If schedules don't work out today, I guess that shared drink will have to wait until Family Weekend.
Oh, and did I mention that I am hosting my book club here on Thursday? I did read the book (since I picked it) but I haven't decided what to serve for refreshments. I guess it is good that H won't be here in my way at least until Thursday morning.
Well, that was therapeutic. I can cope. I didn't need to stress about what to serve the guys for breakfast because they either don't get up (Saturday) or (Sunday) spent the night at Pitt. Oh, and the S was considerate enough to text me by 9:30 to tell me that they were staying at the girlfriend's apartment. I bet her roommates were thrilled to have 4 extra guys for the night!

Good morning.
No Columbus Day celebrations here. The kids have always had school on Columbus Day. I used to have the day off, but they took it away a few years ago.
Gas prices in Southern California are completely out of control. I think I paid $4.79 on Friday. Ouch!
College news: S2 took a road trip with his roommate and a couple of friends up to Berkeley for the football game. Unfortunately Cal beat up on UCLA pretty good.
Enjoy your Sunday!!

It is absolutely gorgeous outside! I have to make myself get out there even though my OCDish self wants to clean the floors while DH and lilD are out golfing. I suppose the floors can wait til tomorrow...
S'14 came home with his GF for the day last weekend. It's a 2 1/2 hr drive so it's not something he does often. But a local band he plays with was performing. It was nice to see him if only for a couple of hours.
D'16 and her BF broke up. She told me about a week ago and last night, I noticed that she changed her status on FB. This BF is one I won't miss. Nice guy, but not for my D. He was too insecure.

So to recap the weekend:
LOQ saved her DH from electrocution & opened a B&B for college students.
Checkers said the "S" word. No Pepsi for You! (but lots of hot tea for that cold). Feel better soon.
The West Coast Peeps are enjoying lovely weather but paying not-so-lovely gas prices, while the East Coast & Midwest Peeps are shivering in the autumn rains.
RobD & alicew baked yummy breakfast treats which DougBetsy generously shared with Batman. And the Peeps are divided over whether P56's DIL's blue ribbon honey-lavender cream pie is yummy or soapy.
ProudNJmom visited the "Orange Bubble" and G#'s D2 has a new BFF named Queen Noor. Quote: |

And in conclusion, there's a bunch of Natitude in this city that last had a winning baseball team in 1933. GO NATS! (oops, that didn't sound quite right). Go Nationals!
