Thanks for the coffee & breakfast buffet, 2ed. Yum! I'm moving slowly.

Um, GSharp, are some of those DH/DW "thread discussions" about kitchen & home repairs quasi-autobiographical per chance, given your domestic projects last weekend?? (And some people will even dye the lawn to show school spirit ). Thanks for a good laugh. I cherish your airport creativity - you've outdone yourself this time. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with both DDs. May the Force protect you on I-95!

Despite losing over 15 lbs, the House Dog is far from svelte - she's still a sausage. But this dog is incredibly outgoing & friendly. She greeted every W&M student as we walked across campus. I was amazed at the number of women who stopped to pet the dog. Of course S2 was more than happy to let the ladies meet the House Dog ..... He started calling me "Grandma" with the "grandpuppy."

In typical COLLEGE student style, I drove the guys home, fed them, then they abandoned me & headed into the city to watch the baseball game. That's okay - I know they will be back by feeding time, or at least to get warmer clothing (they forgot warm jackets at school & had to raid our coat closet).

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We are off to visit S for Parents Weekend.

It seems like yesterday when we drive him to his future college for a campus visit to find out it as Parents Weekend. When DH and I saw how much school spirit there was and how happy many of the parents and students were, we felt so strongly that
it was school for him.

S did pretty well at the programming contest...says he has a good chance to be chosen for the #2 team to go to the ICPC competition. He'll find out later this week. The problems were HARD and no team solved more than 2 of them!

Lafalum, your view sounds lovely. We are starting to get crunchy leaves underfoot here, and the maple trees are orange.

mommusic, congrats to your son!

My son spent one summer doing some programming contest that Google was running. We had to plan around making sure he had internet access on the days the contest was running. It was pretty exciting - they actually flew him to NYC in the fall for the second to last round. (He didn't make it to the finals.)

Wish we were seeing kids. Not even Skype this weekend, which I trust means he's keeping up his language pledge. He got into the spring study abroad program he was hoping for - it's also in Jordan, but in Amman, so further from the Syrian border (yay!) and it includes an internship which ought to be interesting. He was happy since he didn't have the GPA they were looking for, unless you included a summer course that Tufts didn't give him credit for. (And maybe not even then!)

My D and something resembling my S are home for Oct. break. The S-bot is quite scruffy and laughs when it is pointed out.

My weekend in review…
OH -> GA -> VA (pick up DW at airport ) -> DC (pick up D1 ) -> MD -> DE -> NJ (Princeton – 19, Brown – 0 ) -> (leave D2 in NJ ) -> DE -> MD -> DC (leave D1 ) -> VA (DW leaves me at the airport ) -> KY -> OH, whew!

I hope everyone enjoyed my mini alternate CC topics. Sometimes when I venture off into other threads I am convinced that some people live in a whole different universe from me and inspire my own version of CC reality. For example, there was what seemed to be a rash of “Best Colleges” lists posted, so I thought, “Who could make a really interesting list?”… Highlights!… I had to give a nod to the pencil in the tree trunk that seemed to show up every month. I guess I’m just not a good CC citizen. I expect to have my login pulled at any time.

12rmh18 – Maybe “quasi” Actually just the faucet one is semi-autobiographical as it really did need to be done, but the others seemed at least plausible. Given your scenario, the color of my yard indicates that my school spirit lies with Brown. Part of the deal with D2 matriculating was that I would not have to wear orange. BTW, the “Grandma” comment may have been grounds to make S2 walk home from Williamsburg.

Lilmom – These things swirl around in my head for weeks before I get a layover long enough to actually do anything about them. We unwittingly showed up for Parent’s Weekend at D2’s school this weekend.

Mommusic – Many congrats to your S on the programming competition!

Lotsofquests – Don’t worry. I understand completely how those backseat experiences could really mess up one’s ability to type.

Psychmom – Welcome home to D and Scruffy!

Jackief and LIMOMOF2 – One more week! One more week!

Munequita – Thanx for asking about D1. They are still being strung along with no official word, but she is sending out resumes to prepare for what appears to be inevitable. She’ll take any spare PVC rays.

LAF – It sounds like you and your D are making the most of fall break. BTW, D2 said that your alma mater is really pretty.

We (DW, D1, and I) did make it to NJ without incident and got to see D2 cheer. My SIL, niece, and her husband also met us for the game, so it was like Ma, Pa, and the whole Kettle family showed up in Jersey. Since there were six of us, I suggested we write “T-I-G-E-R-S” on our bare bellies to display during the game… Hmmm, I don’t understand why that idea was vetoed… it must’ve been the chill in the air. D1 did wear the Tiger head-band with ears that D2 gave her for Christmas. Welcome to my world. I didn’t realize that the game was going to be broadcast. We did make it on TV a couple of times since we were a few rows above the strange guy in the bizarre orange costume… don’t ask. Oh and if you bet against D2 remembering to put us on the free ticket list (yet again), then you win.

D2 had a party to attend Saturday night, so she looked a little when we parted in early evening. Around 8:00PM, D1 wanted to go get some ice cream (OK, I wanted to get ice cream and she agreed to tag along. ) DW stayed in the hotel for “me time.” While we were driving into town, D2 called from the party and asked if she could come get ice cream with us. We were only about a block away from where she was, so we picked her up, took her to her dorm to change, and brought her with us. As she described it, “I measured the marginal utility of staying at the party against seeing my family that I haven’t seen in a long time and decided I’d rather be with you.” So, I got to have Thomas Sweets ice cream (Pumpkin, Amaretto, and Cookie Monster, if you care ) with both D’s!
