mommusic, Cool!
In COLLEGE news...PMKjr has applied to five co-ops that would start in January and run six months (one in London, one in Boston and three in NYC.) Now we wait for the interviews...it's like the college application process in minature and just as stressful! He really wants the London, so we want him to get it, of course. Plus, we can visit him!
In other news, I joined Weight Watchers last week. A huge step for me. So, today was my first weigh in and I lost 5.4 pounds! Those big weight losses only come at first, then it goes down to 1/2 pound to 1 pound lost a week (one hopes!) The absolute best part is that I was never hungry and I haven't eaten this healthy since I was pregnant with PMKjr. Good news all the way around.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

PMK, welcome to weight watchers! I'm 6 months in and have lost 20 lbs. At first it was about 1.5 lbs/week, now it's down to .5/week... on a good week. But I'm only 7 lbs from my goal weight, and if I end up stuck here I won't be too upset. I eat more than I used to, but its much healthier snacking - love my free fruit! And I try to keep my carbs whole-grain. But it is a plan and a lifestyle I can live with. I figure I'm going to have to track my food for the rest of my life, and weigh in weekly - otherwise it WILL all come back. I've gotten tons of compliments and shopping for clothes 2 sizes smaller - and LIKING the way they looked on me - was a huge boost to my ego.

Lafalum, That is great!
I have about 105lbs to loose, and that's with a goal weigh on the very highest end of my "healty weight" but I know what is realistic for me and my body shape. It's because I'm so big right now that it's coming off so quickly but I know that won't last. I agree that it's going to be tracking food for life. Do you use a phone app? The WW app on my iphone is making tracking so easy that I don't mind thinking of it interms of it being lifelong. In fact, it's kind of interesting.
Congratulations to you and enjoy those new clothes!

Weight watchers works really well if you look at it as a permanent change not a diet. Good luck

PMJ - Best luck to JR on the co-ops. NEU has such wonderful co-op opportunities, US and abroad. And best of luck to you on WW!

^I was up at 4 ish so I decided to see if the sky was clear and it was! I may have missed prime viewing time however...only saw one shooting star. It was nice and peaceful out on the deck, however. |

Good morning iPeeps! I was traveling & am behind on this thread, so I can't respond to any posts.
I joined DH on a business trip to New Orleans, where there were 32,000 neuroscientists running wild. My German seatmate on the airplane informed me that this was the largest neuroscientist convention in the world. (Next year it will be held in San Diego - tx5 beware! ) DH had one free day & I promised him a "full day of fun:" we started at 8am with a 3-hour guided bicycle tour of the neighborhoods, followed by several hours of roaming through the French Quarter, followed by a 2-hour sunset kayak tour on St. John bayou, followed by a magical dinner at a little neighborhood bistro. We had planned to go to a jazz club after dinner but ended up collapsing from exhaustion after our NoLa triathlon (biking, paddling, eating).
While we were exploring NoLa, we missed S2, who came home for an internship interview. We had occasional S2 sightings over Fall Break when he was "home" last weekend (more in theory, not in presence), so missing him on Thu/Fri wasn't traumatic.
Back to catch up on the thread.

Mommusic: congrats to your S!
Laf & PMK: WooHoo on the weight loss!
12rmh18: I need a nap and a massage after reading all that you did in 1 day!
Went to a fun dinner last night. Great food, DJ, Irish Step dancers and my absolute fav, bagpipers/drummers in KILTS! There was also homemade Bailey's which I heard was delicious and had quite a kick to it. Too bad they ran out before I could get a taste! |
