Hi! Great to see this community going strong. I've not posted hear in over a year, but have occasionally dropped by to see what you guys were talking about. I have fond memories our days aboard the S/S Indicision.
I'm going through the application process with my youngest this Fall, but have not been as obsessed with CC this time around.
On the renovation front, we put a new roof on the house during the summer. Is there any other home improvement that costs so much, but without the tangible day-to-day enjoyment?

ProudNJMom, I think I've worn myself out cleaning up my own house. Sorry I have no more energy to help you!
GSharp, it sounds as if you have the Maine accent down pretty well. I never attempt it, myself! I always forget where to add or drop the "r"s.
Please say a little prayer for / send good thoughts to DS. He takes the actuarial exam Monday morning, 9 am to noon Eastern time. He's taken three practice exams. He's just on the edge of getting a passing grade. I think if he can avoid the dumb mistakes, he has a chance. He knows that we will not be disappointed if he doesn't pass it, though! It has to be one of the hardest exams I've ever seen. I still can't figure out why he enjoys the stuff, but he does.
DH is painting walls today. There the ones that have looked horrible for years, but we're just noticing them! I'm also finding dust in places I hadn't noticed in years...

ML: PVC pointed your way!
ELY: Welcome back. Good luck with the applications!
GSharp: Did you watch the bonfire last night? Still waiting to hear from S2 how it went.
Spent yesterday and today baking. Made red velvet truffles, pumpkin truffles and pumpkin bread. I just love the way the house smells after the pumpkin bread is done. I'll make S2 a pumpkin pie on Wednesday night.
I don't mind going to work tomorrow since it will be a 3 day week!

We are so not happy with news from Jordan, but it's been nevertheless interesting to get the inside scoop from S2. Does the PVC reach that far? (Though mostly it's to say, no one really knows which way things will go.)
The good news is my Mom just gave us an early Christmas present. And we are fairly gobsmacked, but I think we can seriously consider kitchen renovations without feeling guilty. Of course, there's still the issue of making some decisions about whether we extend it a couple of feet and whether we build a second story now for a master bath.
G# so glad to hear your daughter has found a new job.
CD glad you didn't go with the $50 K guy. We spent about $40 K I think on our bathroom, but we rearranged all the fixtures, moved walls, moved a wall in our bedroom added closets and redid ceilings on the ground floor.

mathmom--good news re your kitchen! I think you need to get a preliminary estimate to see how much more it will cost to go outside the existing foundation. A LOT more, is my guess.
We had turkey tonight cause we're going to be away for Turkey Day and wanted to have good leftovers in the freezer. I stuffed the bird with apples, onions, celery, cranberries, & herbs instead of bread stuffing. So YUMMY!

mathmom, I remembered you had written about your bathroom reno, and I recalled that you did a lot of structural stuff as part of the project. When we got that estimate, then, it set off my radar big time.
Hurray for your mom's generous gift!
Have been thinking about your S2 a lot lately. IIRC, he leaves Jordan for another program next semester?

Good morning. Coffee's ready.
G# - great news about your D's new job! A reason to be thankful this week.
Laf - I hope your H's weekend improved after he "saluted" your cat. (Her name is Amy, right?)
CD - Good luck with the bathroom. And, I know what you mean about contractor sticker price. It's almost as bad as college sticker price.
ML - Good luck to your S in his Actuarial exam.
~~ waving "hi" to ELY.
mathmom - Good luck with the kitchen reno. For ours, we decided to bump-out the breakfast room.
I never get email notification from CC.
Son's car is fixed. Although, since the battery was dead as a doornail, the radio lost its power and needs to be reset. Usually this is just a matter of entering a secret code and it receives stations again. Not this time. He says it won't even turn on and let him enter the code. Looks like a long, quiet drive home for S. |

Thanks for the good wishes for DS! He has left to take the exam. I'm positive that I'm more nervous than he is! He had his game face on this morning - reminded me of what he was like before big races.
I am now going to run five miles with my friend. My nervous energy should make it quite easy, lol.

DougBetsy--the car radio needs a secret code to do anything? Over the top security system?
Happy Monday to all! Only a 3 day week...not counting the day you spend cooking and cleaning up after guests. |
