Paw points and tiger stripes

Hi folks,

My son will be attending Clemson in the fall. We were looking at the meal plan options, and I'm a bit confused with paw points vs tiger stripes. I see that you can purchase paw points with the meal plan. I don't quite see the point (no pun intended); can't you add paw points electronically at any time? Or can you only get them when you buy the meal plan? Are tiger stripes on the same card? Do they cost the same, and where can you use them vs paw points?

Thanks in advance!

It is a little bit confusing.

Tiger Stripe money = funds you can use for anything on campus (bookstore, dining, etc..) or even at some off-campus locations
Paw Points = funds you can only use at on-campus dining facilities

They are on the same card (your student ID), you can get them with your meal plan and you can add them on electronically as well here: Optional Paw Points
If you purchase more than $100 in paw points, you get a 5% discount. That's really the only advantage so if you aren't going to use $100 or more in paw points, just add money to your tiger stripe.

Where you can use paw points: Harcombe Dining Hall, Schilletter Dining Hall, The Clemson House, The Canteen, Eastside Food Court, Fernow Street Cafe, Chili's Too, Java City Cyber Cafe, Snax and Stax Convenience Store, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Wendy's, Seasons by the Lake Restaurant, and Convenience Stores: Paw Mart, POD, and POD Express.

Where you can use Tiger Stripe
On-Campus: Where is TigerStripe Accepted On-Campus? : Clemson University
Off-Campus: Where is TigerStripe Accepted Off-Campus? : Clemson University

Thanks Pierre - we appreciate all the posts that you do!
Another question related to food - are any dining halls open later at night? We're looking at the 15 vs unlimited meal plans. My son doesn't really eat breakfast, so wondering if students really go back to the dining halls (besides lunch or dinner). Figure if the dining halls are open late, then that could be a time when you might go back.
Do you think the unlimited plan is worth it?

The dining halls will be open till 9 PM Sunday-Thursday and 7 PM Friday and Saturday

I think the unlimited plan is worth it. The difference between the 15 and unlimited is very small and with unlimited you have the freedom to go in and out as many times as you want. You could eat a bunch of small meals, you can go with your friends whenever they feel like getting something to eat etc... , just allows for a lot more flexibility

I have not received any info about meal plan options yet. Do you remember when you got it?

You will get a brochure in the mail sometime about it. As the meal plan rates for next year have not been set, it probably won't be for a little while at least until they do that.

Here are the meal plan options from this past year: Welcome to CampusDish at Clemson University!
