Provisional Acceptance?

I got a letter from Clemson saying that I have been provisionally accepted.
I'm still a junior but I had sent my ACT scores to Clemson. What does it mean to be "provisionally accepted?"

it means that assuming your grades are in decent shape, you've pretty much been offered admission to Clemson.

My DD sent her ACT scores to Clemson about a month before she received the letter. However, the score she sent was from a state mandated test rather than one of the national tests. I don't know if that would affect Clemson's timetable or not since it did not come in as part of the huge batch of "free score reports" with the national test dates.

Basically it means if you end up applying and your grades/scores consistant with the score you sent, you are in. But you do have to apply:)

    ljrfrm:
Just curious about the provisional acceptance. Did your son do anything other than send his SAT scores to Clemson? My son is also interested, sent scores in May (1350 M+CR, 1970 total) but has not heard
anything. Are you in-state or out of state? Does Clemson know anything about his gpa or class rank?

    thanks

I know with the ACT test, during registration, you self-report the classes you have taken and grades-its not anything official. I assume there is something similar with the SAT. Unless you have submitted a transcript, Clemson would not have anything "official".

The provisonal letter does say something to the effect that its based upon your test score received from ACT and self-reported courses and grades. It also says that you must submit an official transcript as part of your application. So, I guess if you have lied through your teeth, they don't have to take you. I am sure they are assuming that with a high standardized test score that was submitted directly by the testing company, you more than likely have corresponding grades.

Newma: My son filled out the information on Collegeboard regarding GPA, class rank (he put he didn't know it yet) and what he wants to study, etc. The letter we received said that after looking at our SAT scores and his Collegeboard profile, they offer provisional acceptance. We are out of state. Hope this helps..........
