National Scholar Weekend Report

We went to the National Scholar Finalist competition last weekend and it was fantastic. Clemson did a wonderful job of expressing what is special about the school and treated the students like recruited athletes. They paid all expenses, put students and parents up in the Martin Inn (right on Lake Hartwell) and gave ds tons of goodies (including a really nice embroidered jacket and duffle bag). We had a reception at the president's house, a couple of banquets, two interviews and a group interaction sort of thing, several information sessions, a student host to get us everywhere on time, a couple of social mixers for the students and lots more.

Probably the best thing about the program is that it is not just a scholarship, but a program of ongoing intellectual interaction - they even have a lounge set up with keyed entry just for National Scholars to study and discuss things.

A very cool program and weekend.

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time. Has your child decided on a college yet?

Any change you made it out to one of the baseball games?

No, we won't make a decision til all the offers are in - he's got to have money to go to college, so we're waiting to see.

Clemson felt great to all of us, though!
