biomedical engineering

Is there a biomedical engineering major at Clemson?

If not, is there a similar major where students can take engineering electives that relate to the BME field, like medical instruments, prosthetics?

Is there a computer science/engineering program where student can learn many different languages, like JAVA and C++?

Is there a co-op and internship program for engineering students?

Thanks, Pierre. Hoping to hear from you. Thanks for those links.

Keep us posted on your progress! What dorm are you in, what classes are you taking, are you in Honors?

maybe I should just start a blog on this part of the CC page?

Anyways, I've been assigned to an apartment building in Calhoun Courts. I didn't get any of the dorms I requested because they've basically run out of rooms for freshmen (more people than usual committed to Clemson this year probably because of the economy). I don't really mind because I get a bathroom for only 4 people, a living room, and a kitchen (not to mention that it's cheaper than the freshmen dorms). It is a longer walk to my classes but I walk fast so that shouldn't be a problem.

Next year as a general engineering student I will be taking CH 101 (General Chemistry), CES 102 (Engineering Disciplines & Skills), Chinese 101 (Elementary Chinese), MTHSC 106 (Calculus of One Variable I) and ENGL 103 (Accelerated Composition). All of these classes except for Calculus have a lab section. Here's my schedule for next year:

ENGL 103: Accelerated Composition 8:00 - 9:15 TTH
CH L 101: General Chemistry Lab 9:30 - 12:20 T (Lewis)
CH 101: General Chemistry 10:10 - 11:00 MWF (Schvaneveldt)
CES L 102: Engineering Disciplines & Skills Lab 12:30 - 2:25 TH (Stephan)
CES 102: Engineering Disciplines & Skills 2:30 - 3:20 M (Stephan)
CHIN L 101: Elementary Chinese Lab 9:05 - 9:55 F (Zhang)
CHIN 101: Elementary Chinese 11:15 - 12:05 MWF (Zhang)
ENGL L 103: Accelerated Composition Lab - To Be Arranged (Haynes)
LIB 100: Clemson Connect - To Be Arranged (Appling)
MTHSC 106: Calculus Of One Variable 12:20-1:10MWF, 12:30-1:20T (Not Assigned)

I am not in honors but I am hoping to be eligible by the end of the first semester. I think I need at least a 3.5 GPA in order to apply to honors.

Okay. Hijacking my own thread. Why are you taking Chinese?

And do you have this apartment all to yourself?

Speaking of walking. Are you able to just around by foot up there? Don't want to send son with a car until absolutely necessary, ie, when doing coops.

Thanks for your input. Our list is growing to 20, if you can believe it. Son won't be happy, but going to have to insist on some good schools closer to home.

Enjoy, Pierre!

I'm taking chinese because it's a little personal goal for myself. I'm chinese but I don't know how to read and write. Speaking is also a problem so I'm gonna try and find my own culture and language haha

I'm sharing the apartment with 3 other roommates but it's huge so I don't mind sharing the space at all.

I will be able to walk around on foot. There's a public transportation system that works well so a car isn't totally necessary unless he wants to go somewhere outside of the 15 mile zone of campus.

More info on BME major

Found the BME major on the website, but would like to hear from anyone in that major. Seems like a new major. What amount of computer work do you do? Are you able to coop or intern? Anybody got a job right out of college with a BS, or are most going to grad school?

Thanks for any info!

Not sure if there are any biomedical engineering students on here but if you are interested you could contact Christopher Porter (cporter@clemson.edu) about contacting a bioengineering student. He's the director of undergraduate recruitment.

Bumping up my post for BME info! Just visited and accepted at UAB. Son is now open to southern/state schools, so hoping willing to look at Clemson.

Anyone out there majoring in BME? Anyone also in the Honors program with this? Can you do both, or is BME enough to handle on its own?
