Graphic Communications Department

My D is very interested in going into Graphics. Although she is not an artist, she has a great eye for how a final product should look. She really wants to work for a magazine (if they still exist by the time she graduates) or other medium for presenting information. For example, she is interested in the layout and presentation of the college books that we are receiving.

I see that you need a portfolio at the end of freshman year to be accepted into the program. What kind of portfolio? Should she start putting together layouts of some kind?

Please let me know what your journey has been to get into this field. By the way, keep in mind my D is not an artist. If she needs to be, please straight out and tell me. If you are similar to my D, I would like to know your story.

Thanks so much.
